Uncharted 3 reveal looks set for Dec

Sony teases exclusive PlayStation 3 game.

Sony plans to unveil a PlayStation 3 exclusive the day after the Spike Videogame Awards - and word on the street is it's Uncharted 3.

Speculation was sparked by an invitation to a Sony event scheduled for the day after the VGAs – 12th December.

The heavily rumoured Uncharted 3 will have its video debut at the VGAs, according to Kotaku.

Uncharted 3 is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.

In January Nolan North, the voice of Uncharted protagonist Nathan Drake, hinted that production on the game would begin this year.

And in September last year Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig expressed her belief that the Uncharted series had the potential to run and run, long past Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

"Our expectation with Uncharted is that it can be an ongoing franchise as long as people want more of it," she said.

"[Drake's] going to have lots of adventures, thank god."

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was released at the end of 2007 and took home 9/10 on Eurogamer.

Among Thieves - released on 16th October – went one better.

".....is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming..."

Isn't that pretty much everything Sony does?
  • handsonhips101 #5 2 years ago

Don't get me wrong I love uncharted. I just think its gonna be milked to death.

Still, I'll buy it day one if its different enough from the 2nd one.
  • Kenshin001 #6 2 years ago

Surely if the UC3 video is shown at the VGAs that is a reveal and the thing shown the day after would be a different game?

Best new IP this gen, I really can't wait another 12 months. :o(

Going on Naughty Dog's track record, Uncharted 4 will be a kart racing game.
Crash Bandicoot -> Crash Bandicoot 2 -> Crash Bandicoot 3 -> Crash Team Racing
    Jak and Daxter -> Jak 2 -> Jak 3 -> Jak X

    Uncharted -> Uncharted 2 -> Uncharted 3 -> Uncharted: The Race to Pandora's Box

God, if that turned out to be true...

Unless Naughty Dog has chanced drastically since the PS1/PS2 era, I don't think Uncharted is going to get milked. How many Sony first party franchises has really been milked to death? That's usually the role of third party developers.

You may say a lot of bad things about Sony, but at least they seem care about their developers and if the developer says enough is enough, then you don't see Sony being difficult about it. If Naughty Dog tires of Uncharted, it probably goes the way of their other franchises. Either it's sold off to the highest bidder (Crash Bandicoot), or they just ignore it and create something new.

I would give both of my legs and part of my spine for this game.
  • JBlokeUK #11 2 years ago

Good news yet no real surprise as everyone knew it was coming.

Was kinda hoping Sony would confirm the rumoured Starhawk though.

Augmentation--If it turns out to be true it's because you reminded them. Shame on you.

Also--not many games have such pedigree that I can be certain that I will buy the sequel irrespective--but this is one (and Mass Effect 3 is another!)

As long as Naughty Dog can deliver games that match and/or exceed the quality of the first two Uncharted games, I'm not complaining even if they release one every single year.

Can never have too much of a good thing... My favourite games this gen...
  • HisDudness #17 2 years ago

Maybe Drake will juggle three broads this time...

I wasn't even aware this was a secret at all, you didn't need to be an oracle to predict another game in the series .
  • Mkwone #20 2 years ago

I'm probably in the minority here but i hope it's move compatible. Either way looking forward to what will be a great game - presuming it is Uncharted 3 that will be announced.
  • Ninja_Tino #21 2 years ago

What the hell does 'give us a break' mean?
  • sfp_noodle #22 2 years ago

I still remember the Uncharted 2 reveal two years ago. When I saw Drake walking through the snow I jumped up and punched the air whilst having my jaw drop to the floor. With drool all over my face and neck. ND games usually peak with their 3rd game in the series (see Crash Bandicoot, Jak series) but this this their only franchise that I can see going past a third installment.

Mind you if the reveal isn't Uncharted 3 but is a new PS3 Jak game I'd be equally excited.

I'd have thought Mass Effect 3 was gaming's 'worst kept secret' given at the start they said it was a trilogy but hey, what do I know. As to Uncharted 3 - It. Can't. Come. Too. Soon. The Uncharted series is genuinely the best new series to hit games in years.

Bloody hell, ND, give the rest of the industry a chance to catch up to Uncharted 2 before you go announcing another one!

    Playstation Move support?

uncharted 2 was an amazing game, and i really enjoyed the multiplayer up until naughty dog fucked around with it and made is a cod killfest

@Ninja_Tino: 'giving us a break' means that developers refrain from making new games in a series so we don't have to buy them. I think.
  • darc #29 2 years ago

Loved UC2. Really should get a copy of UC1 and play through before UC3 hits.
  • Lunastra78 #30 2 years ago

I'm as excited for Uncharted 3 as the rest of you, but we already know that's coming at some point. What I'm really hoping for is a new exclusive IP.

"Uncharted 3 is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming."

It was utterly inevitable, given the second game's glut of perfect scores and GotY awards, as well as I think a few million sales or more.

Speaking of which, anyone know what sort of sales figures it had by the last count?

@ handsonhips101 - "Don't get me wrong I love uncharted. I just think its gonna be milked to death."

One sequel every two years does not strike me as being 'milked to death'. God knows what you must think of Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed et al.
  • trip919 #32 2 years ago

    I can not FUCKING WAIT!
  • winstoninabox #33 2 years ago

    @Augmentation

I hear it's a kart racer that's also coming out on the PSP, PS2, DS, GameCube, GameBoy and iPhone.
