F1 2010 corrupt saves fix promised

Codies confirms "issue is with development".

A patch that addresses corrupt game saves in F1 2010 is in the works at Codemasters, the UK company has confirmed.

Players had reported issues with the recently released racer – currently Britain's best-selling game – in spiralling threads on Codemasters' forum.

The corrupted game save issue appears to plague all three versions of the game: PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In the meantime, Codemasters suggested a "potential workaround", which involves loading in qualifying sessions before exiting the game. You'll find more details here.

Codies reckons the corrupt game save malfunction only occurs if, after completing an R&D objective, you: retire to the paddock via the Engineer (in the garage); terminally damage your car and select retire to paddock; get disqualified and select retire to paddock. So yeah, don't do those things – for now.

As long as you progress to the qualifying session before quitting the game the problem will not occur, Codies said.

F1 2010 hit number one in the UK all-formats chart this week, knocking Halo: Reach off top spot. Eurogamer's 8/10 review reveals all.

Good to hear, also installed Game to Harddrive on 360 very choppy indeed!
  • ryn.x #2 2 years ago

Any idea why it's still not showing up on your played list on Xbox.com? Not had anything major going wrong with mine just yet (touch wood), but have been getting the odd lock up for a few seconds or so every now and then.

Just one out of many things that need addressing. One has to ask, where was the play testing on this game? One could also ask why reviewers haven't picked up on the many bugs. I would have thought one needed to play a game before reviewing it?

Also the laughable pit stop bug? Game itself is great but you need to get the fundamentals correct.

This gen all these games are riddled with bugs as they can just patch it via Internet. Anyway I am loving the game tho :0)
  • Beano #5 2 years ago

What about all the other bugs, CM??
  • Sniper_007 #6 2 years ago

Any chance Eurogamer could use its power to ask Codemasters directly about any of the other bugs, and add a little pressure to get this patch to fix as many as possible? With well over 100 pages in the bug thread on the Codies forum it doesn't look like this is the only problem that really ought to be fixed?
  • altitude2k #7 2 years ago

I'd rather you fixed the pit lane problem, to be honest...
  • fergal_oc #8 2 years ago

DavoTheDiv_2010 living up to your name mate aint ya.

I can almost guarantee you that testing 'found' the issues in question but they were deemed not important enough to fix or time ran out. But as I'm sure you're a test professional you knew that already :)

fergal_oc: Shouldn't you be at school?
  • GamesConnoisseur #10 2 years ago

Got the game but now I ll hold it back until they have patched and fixed the problem, I ll carry on with DR2,Reach, Move and RUSE in the meantime.
  • udders #11 2 years ago

Yeah mine freezes in a race or qualifying for a few seconds which is annoying as u loose your rythem in a race
  • cnlfailure #12 2 years ago

I've always found that the number of "bugs" reported via an official forum has little or no relation to the number I'll actually experience when playing a game. After all, if there were hundreds of bugs in a game, surely you'd have more than a couple of hundred people posting their problems, especially given the many thousands of copies just sold?

Forums are the home of the most insane and enthusiastic gamers and as such don't offer a distorted picture of reality.

    @altitude2k

What's the pit lane problem you've had? I was called in to the pits by my engineer only to have half the field come in as well. I then had to wait for everyone else behind me to leave the pits before I could. I ended up dropping from third to 10th.

Don't really think it was a bug but it was very frustrating. Still loving the game though.

Just copying this from a post on the CM forums:

The AI seen driving round the track bares little relation to the times posted.

    Proof
Just raced on Bahrain and started in sixth. At the end of the 1st lap i was second. My lap time was 2:03. Webber was in first, he was at most a second a head on track yet his lap time was 2:00. The big issue was Kubica. He was 3rd, yet his lap time was 1:59. This is impossible. There is no way that on the first lap Kubica can go round the track 1 second quicker than Webber, 4 seconds quicker than me and still end up in 3rd at the end of said lap.

If the AI we see on the track are not posting the lap times and just populated like cars in GTA that would explain lots of the issues I have with the game

No split times - cause the AI isnt actually lapping

Strange AI pit stops(questioning whether the AI has made a pit stop)

    No penalties for the AI

This game is a time trial with the AI just there to act as blockers of the racing line. The AI difficulty isnt how well they drive just how aggressively they defend the racing line. Should really have expected this from a game based on a rally engine.

This is why I could never buy this game, despite being a huge fan of Grid and Dirt 2. An F1 game where the laptimes for everyone except you are just randomly applied is almost completely pointless.
  • ron_aldo #16 2 years ago

Maybe Kubica started several rows behind Webber, therefore crossing the start-finish line later but still recorded a faster lap? True though, there are plenty of little glitches although I haven't experienced many that I have read about

Yes, the "issue" is that it was "developed" by Codebastards.

arcam's paste from their own forums is a great example.

EDIT: To all the downvoters: How many times do you have to get fucked over by their shoddy business practices before you stop supporting them?!

  • arbok #18 2 years ago

this game is a freaking joke - as acram's post above shows - you aren't even racing against cars - the game just draws them in when you get close and pastes a lap time on....

Here are the choice picks from the unofficial bug list on their forums, I can't help but be reminded of Frontier: First Encounters [link url=http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/429298-unofficial-f1-2010-bugs-errors-list.html

-AI drivers not pitting at all in a race, or too many times.

-Times that are predetermined by cpu in qualy dont relate to actual race pace set by ai in race.

-pit lane exit/entry lines can be passed over without penalty!

-Fuel Sim ON, and Fuel Sim OFF: the players' car performance is noticeably affected,
    but AI cars aren't?

    -Freezing and locking up often

-Cars not being serviced in the pits and just sitting there, causing user to reset race if teammate is stuck

-Race results not portraying actual results

-AI blue flag issue, they get disqualified

-AI cars drive, dry times in the wet, on slick tyres when I can't even turn if I go over 100mph!

-Pit limiter auto on regardless of setting. Whole Pit lane routine doesnt work properly.

    -Damage not affecting AI

    -Flashbacks ruining laptimes

-gaining places when no cars actually overtaken

-excessive punctures & punctures being replaced with punctured tyres on same compound.

-Team mates showing incorrect on contract

-Split timing would be Usefull on screen.

-Sector 3 times don't stay up, you can't ever see your sector 3

-Tyre availability bug in practice sessions, e.g., no Primes available in P2 image

-penalties given to player when ai hit you and also far too sensitive in certain forced situations

-Odd objectives set by team (finished 22 then target was 12 in virgin?!).

-during a session the autosave symbol will continually spin.

-AI drivers swerve back and forth across track but still post fast lap times

-Whenever a car spins infront of me, and i run into it and get stuck, the game for some reason gives me a penalty for illegal blocking

I've been enjoying F1 2010 on the PC, although I've been somewhat addicted to Darksiders (also on the PC) so haven't played as much I'd have liked. Fortunately, I haven't encountered many bugs but one that did annoy me was the Monaco Time Trial I tried where every lap was being invalidated because I clipped the side of the track or a corner slightly. In the end I just gave up and quit it. Fortunately, the Career so far (three tracks in on 20% length) is great and the game is running smoothly and looks great. I hope Codemasters quickly address these bugs/glitches before they become an issue for me and others though.
  • Darren #22 2 years ago

Oh and less I forget, I've had instances where a car behind me has clipped mine approaching a corner on the racing line but I've been given the penalty. I've also been penalised for cutting corners just because my tyre touched the red/white bits on the side of the track. I find those unfair but maybe that's realistic?
  • Beano #23 2 years ago

@metalangel : The list of bugs in F1 is an insult to consumers. I wonder if Eurogamer will look into this story and get a proper response from Codemasters - of if Eurogamer is are in Codemasters' pockets and not touching this story?
  • Beano #24 2 years ago

@Darren : Touching the curbs is legal in real F1 - the in-game tips even recommend the player to use them in dry weather.
  • secombe #25 2 years ago

Gamespot was pretty much the only review site that picked up on some of the issues ( plus the lack of interval timing)

The pit stop bug is very common and has been confirmed by Codies (with a workaround...don't pit when everyone else does!), I personally have experienced that one and the one where AI cars don't pit at all in a race.

If you're running long races it completely ruins a whole lot of time and effort.

@metalangel +1 for the list of bugs however....

...The list of bugs metalangel posted include some things that could just be player ignorance. Gaining places without overtaking can happen anytime you pass the pit lanes or if a car ahead crashes out. I noticed a couple of others that aren't bugs just quirky rules from real f1. That said I hope codemasters do patch the problems as over zealous penalties are starting to spoil the fun.
  • orangpelupa #27 2 years ago

wow so many bugs, here hoping Eurogamer can press CM to fix the bugs, not just the savegame bug.
the only bugs i like is : Bugs Bunny. (yeah i tried to be fun but seems not funny at all lol)
  • CodeBastards #28 2 years ago

  • BigDaddy82 #29 2 years ago

I see the trolls are out in force yet again in a CM thread (metalangel...), i've been playing this game and it's good fun, i'm up to race 13 in the career and i haven't experienced any of these major bugs, and doubtless the rest of you who are copying and pasting bug lists from forums probably haven't either. Sure it's not a perfect game, there are minor things to be fixed, but people on here do love to blow things out of proportion, get lives people!
  • Beano #30 2 years ago

Yes, we are all complaining about F1 2010 bugs out of boredom. You got us.
  • BigDaddy82 #31 2 years ago

I was more referring to the kiddies who think calling them CodeBastards is funny, it's fine to report bugs, like i said it's not as if some don't exist
  • Agent_Llama #32 2 years ago

Just got home to find my 360 hard drive has wiped of all save data. Is it any coincidence I started my F1 2010 file again yesterday? From the forums it looks like I'm not the only one to suffer this with their data and F1. It's a joke. Codemasters should ashamed of releasing this bugged mess of a game.
