UK chart: F1 dethrones Halo: Reach

New: Dead Rising 2! FFXIV! Civ5! GH:WOR!

Codemasters' new racing game F1 2010 dethroned Halo: Reach to become the UK's best selling game last week.

It's the first F1 game to reach the top in nine years. It's also Codemasters' first attempt at the licence.

Halo: Reach was forced into second, but stayed ahead of another big new entry Dead Rising 2 in third.

PC exclusive Civilization V arrived in fourth, and Activision Blizzard's new Guitar Hero game, Warriors of Rock, debuted sixth. Sports Champions was sandwiched in-between in fifth.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was seventh, Mafia II eighth and Toy Story 3 ninth.

This week's final newcomer, MMO Final Fantasy XIV Online, was 10th. Only the Collector's Edition was released last week, however - the standard game will be released on Thursday.

Good to see Sports Champs staying relatively steady.

And good to see F1 on top, it's a fantastic game. Thought Reach would hold #1 for more than a week though
  • ryn.x #2 2 years ago

Worth mentioning that F1 2010 outsold Reach and Dead Rising 2 combined. Decent showing for Civ V as well.

wow didn't expect f1 to be so popular, i got me a copy and im really enjoying it so glad it managed to get pole position!

I imagine Civ would be even higher if Steam sales were counted. Glad to see F1 doing well though, it's a great game.
  • Haerger #5 2 years ago

Nice to see Civ5 charted - Quite good game but at the mo Civ4 BTS is better.
  • bad09 #6 2 years ago

Well deserved (despite the Steam debacle - seriously it was nice they tried to move it forward to 12am but that original 6pm on launch day Codies. WTF???).

Anyways, hard as nails and I'm insultingly crap at it but it's just so bloody awesome. Wonderful racer that more than takes the sting out of that WRC being poo.

F1 sold out in Tesco on Friday after work and also in couple of other shops I went to, so yes was pretty clear that its gonna do quite well!

I only played the first practice of the first race and still engrossed with Dead Rising 2, as having a quite fun time and already at third day.

Civ V via Steam, is also the next worthy game to demand my spilt attention, and finally got my repaired (via excellent consoledoctor.com)YLOD PS3 back on weekend to continue with my new Move inc Sports Champion.

Just glad that all the top 5 games is doing well and deserving of our attention!

I'm actually very surprised that Halo Reach got de-throned after just 2 weeks. It lost its place to a racing game aswell, albeit an excellent racing game. I can't remember anything de-throning Halo 3 until COD4 was released so this is a massive achievement by codemasters.
  • karooo #9 2 years ago

Didnt see that coming, I thought Halo would be no 1 till Cod arrives.

But loving sports champions, table tennis is so addicitive.
  • Spydy #10 2 years ago

Sports Champions + 2 Move Controllers + Gladiator Dual = Laughs
  • ZuluHero #11 2 years ago

I, on the other hand, did! ;)

Both Halo and DR signify the start of a very expensive couple of months for me! Gah!
  • Beano #12 2 years ago

"It's also Codemasters' first attempt at the licence. "

Hopefully their second attempt will be a lot better - what a letdown this game is :(
  • Mkwone #13 2 years ago

Wait F1 2010 outsold both Reach and DR2? Jesus, that's impressive.

Would have never expected that F1 2010 would do so well - A Formula 1 racing game outselling one of the biggest FPS franchises? Not something that you see every day.

Also, I didn't know Guitar Hero is already out. Hopefully Rock Band 3 won't take much longer.
  • CrimsonSoul #15 2 years ago

Like a few people here, surprised to see to Hallo:Reach knocked off the top but I did get the impression that there wasn't the huge multiplayer numbers people were expecting.
  • xentar #16 2 years ago

Wow, i have to repeat the sentiments. F1 outsold Reach?! Codies bought all the copies to create buzz, right?
Good to see Sports Champions among the top games too. I love the game.
  • lockload #17 2 years ago

Not surprised shame the game is bugged to hell

Add me to the list of 'surprised Reach was knocked off the top spot'.

Sports Champions looks to be doing well, Sony must be pleased.
  • Beano #19 2 years ago

"Not surprised shame the game is bugged to hell "

Agreed - and I don't expect Codemasters to fix these issues now that they are deep into the 2011 game :(

F1 2010 is truly an amazing game. Simply can't remember the last time I went racing in a game NOT to earn cash to buy the next awesome car (fun as that may be) but simply because the actual racing is incredibly fun. What an achievement.
  • Markitron #21 2 years ago

A guitar hero game came out? It sure aint 2007 anymore...........
  • Geordiemp #22 2 years ago

CVG reported sasme article, and said Reach sales were down 80 % from first week.

Expected Reach to last there a bit longer and not such a large drop...At least we wont get annoyed by all the Reach sales stories and claims by MS as biggest eva....
  • Beano #23 2 years ago

"A guitar hero game came out? It sure aint 2007 anymore........... "

Agreed (again)... and where are all the GH6 reviews?
  • Luvbeers #24 2 years ago

It sold well because there is an xbox version this time and there are two Brits in contention for the WDC.
  • Goodfella #25 2 years ago

    Re: Guitar Hero 6

Good point, didn't know it was out either, no reviews or anything.

Not that I want that piece of garbage, it's Rock Band 3 for me at the end of next month.
  • optimusprym8 #26 2 years ago

am loving F1-2010 but the bugs are pissing me off. It just randomly freezes for about 1-2 seconds during a race. So far has only happened on the straights luckily but this and a few other niggles with the rules stop it from being awesome.

I hope for a patch though.

Still it won't stop me swearing my head off losing a race on the last corner of the last lap.
  • MontyBrewster #27 2 years ago

    Re: Halo 3

It was number 1 for precisely 1 week back in 2007, before being dethroned by FIFA 2008.

Incredibly though Juiced 2: Hot Import nights was at number 3!

Has everyone who wanted to buy a copy of Reach already done so then?

  • dr_zoidthrob #29 2 years ago

Great to see F1 at the top.

Now all they have to do is fix it...
  • Snaggletooth #30 2 years ago

"I imagine Civ would be even higher if Steam sales were counted. Glad to see F1 doing well though, it's a great game."

I bought my copy of F1 2010 over Steam (unfortunately), so does that mean that the purchase does not go towards their chart position?
  • Snaggletooth #31 2 years ago

"am loving F1-2010 but the bugs are pissing me off. It just randomly freezes for about 1-2 seconds during a race. So far has only happened on the straights luckily but this and a few other niggles with the rules stop it from being awesome."

I see a lot of people complaining about bugs and slow downs in this game. I have played it solid all weekend and not seen any slowdown or any bugs what so ever. I'm not saying I don't have them i'm just saying I haven't noticed. Can someone give me an example of a bug in F1 so I can check it out.
  • Vedfolner #32 2 years ago

@optimusprym8 Hmm... that's odd. Haven't had that happen to me a single time - are you playing it on 360 or PS3?
  • secombe #33 2 years ago

    An example of a bug?

Since Wednesday I've already experienced the AI not pitting at all during a race, and the 'being held in your pit box whilst every car drives past' one is incredibly common.

Amazing game, but very buggy. The lack of interval times is also a massive flaw which I don't think a single review picked up on.
  • kiroquai #34 2 years ago

There's also a bug that, if you have used the R&D bit of career, could potentially corrupt your save game at the end of your first season.

Lovely game in places, but it does need a few fixes.
  • dom6918 #35 2 years ago

Interval timing is bloody annoying!!! so is the lack of option to watch other racers in the Pit while in Qualifying (used this to learn the tracks in GP4)...

but the game...handling, immersion is unbelievable..at least 2011 will be amazing..with these sales 2011 is definately on!
  • brseg #36 2 years ago

The gamespot review picked up on hud/interval time issue.
  • Bigmac1910 #37 2 years ago

Is this the Xbox360 or PS3 version that have these bugs, as I haven't noticed any yet. (PS3 version here)
  • Monkey_Puncher #38 2 years ago

Hope Dead rising 2 is selling well, been playing the hell out of it in co-op over the weekend and I'm really loving it!
  • SFG_Clan #39 2 years ago

Yay for BFBC2 staying ahead of modern shoutfest 2
  • Beano #40 2 years ago

Reg. F1 bugs... I have experienced a few times where a AI car hit me from behind and I got a harsh penalty (causing me to lose the race) eventhough the AI driver clearly was at fault. Very frustrating! Slowdown, tearing and random pauses are also irritating. I own the 360 version.
  • TRUTH #41 2 years ago

Loved the fighting and scale of fighting in Halo 3, love the feel of real F1 racing - my to favorite games so-far this year (Though loved Demon's Souls and Metro 2033 too).

    3/10 on Edge
  • gjgjg #42 2 years ago

As much as I spend on steam, I couldnt justify e50 for Civ 5, thanks Getgames! ;P
Wonder what F1 x360 sales v Reach sales look like...
  • optimusprym8 #43 2 years ago

    360 Elite - 120Gb - game installed to HDD

The worst one is as I said, the whole game just freezes up for 1-2 seconds as if it's loading or caching something then carries on. Only noticable during a race, going full pelt down a straight.

The option to view the other cars racing in Multiplayer if you're in the lobby waiting for the current track to be finished (for whatever reason, *ahem) would be nice
  • Luvbeers #44 2 years ago

@nuanimal "Has everyone who wanted to buy a copy of Reach already done so then? "

I want a copy of Reach but I realised I never can find anything I want in the bargain bin because everything I want to play I pre-ordered and bought. This year I will not buy some games so that I can get them used next summer.
  • dr_zoidthrob #45 2 years ago

Just started 8th and finished 22nd in Monaco... all because the other cars didn't pit. Not once. Some of the bugs in this are shocking.

How about re-interviewing the designers and confronting then with all the issues, eh EG?
  • Vedfolner #46 2 years ago

    @optimusprym8

Yes it would indeed be nice to see the cars in multiplayer while you are in the lobby. (makes the waiting much less annoying in Forza 3)
As for bugs whether it's freezing graphics or AI cars that don't pit it hasn't happened to me at all. Playing on PS3.
  • Daeltaja #47 2 years ago

Insane result for F1. Coddies must be chuffed. Would have thought it would have been niche enough, just surprised to see it oust Halo after only a week on top. Dead Rising is excellent, surprised it sold behind the top 2.
  • Snaggletooth #48 2 years ago

thanks everyone, I must admit I did get a penalty when someone hit me, now that you mention it...

I'm gonna check the others bugs out and see if they are on PC version, which is what I am using.

  • FooAtari #49 2 years ago

You haven't noticed any bugs on the PC version Snaggletooth??

That's pretty lucky. I've had sound issues, framte is abysmal, stuttering, freezing for several seconds, crashing...

But I haven;t bothered to look into it much as I have a new PC coming this week.
  • Snaggletooth #50 2 years ago

    @FooAtari
no mate, none at all... performance is really impressive. I get 1080p @ 60hz with everything on ultra and the fps doesnt even flinch from 60fps...of course, I have a monster system and would have been very dissapointed with any performance issues but so far its all good in that dept.

as for bugs, i hadnt noticed any other than getting a penatly when someone hit me. But then i hadnt really looked for them....or was good enough to finish a race to notice about other drivers not pitting. However, i am gonna have a session tonight and look out for them so will report back about what i find.
  • Bluetooth #51 2 years ago

Online is brilliant (other than getting penalties for someone else hitting you). However according to some eagle eyed players, the times set by the other AI cars are all made up according to "who they are" - try it yourself next time, follow a car in the race (or lead one) - when the lap times appear the times will not correlate with your position (so you can be leading and extending the gap and still 2nd place car will have a faster lap time than you). Same with quals.
  • dingo75 #52 2 years ago

Has everyone who wanted to buy a copy of Reach already done so then?

I'll pick it up for 20 EUR in a few months just as I did with Halo 3 and OSDT.

Two PC exclusives in the top 10? Huzzah!
  • man.the.king #55 2 years ago

    @Goodfella

"Sports Champions looks to be doing well, Sony must be pleased. "

Add to that the logical conclusion that to play SC you must also purchase the hardware, and it can be deduced that Move must be doing really well.

I can honestly say I'm surprised. I never really expected that what was essentially a peripheral would do this well.
  • doggod #56 2 years ago

The only thing this game(F1 2010) excels in is the amount of bug both
gameplay and technical across all platforms that they managed to pack in
    in one release.
  • FooAtari #57 2 years ago

    Here's a good list of the number bugs found so far;

    http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f...

And article that sums up my feelings of it, on the PC at least. Good, but flawed. Needs patched ASAP

@Secombe and Dr_zoidthrob - Oh man, tell me about the AI not pitting...I was in a Lotus on hard difficulty and managed to get it on pole. Finished third in the race. Petrov won it (???) and Hamilton was second, pretty sure both didn't pit. I finished third, 18 seconds behind...(so I would have been out somewhere alongside them if they had pitted). Och well, I was still thrilled to get a podium. Alguersuari came flying out the pits at some point and we both fought wheel to wheel for three corners. Was just excellent. Got him though.

Game deserves the top spot. Halo: Reach is just forgettable compared to the moments this game has provided so far. Roll on F1 2011!
  • kwesleyb #59 2 years ago

the fact that this game doesn't support my high quality Xonar Essence STX card is an absolute joke... The only game that doesnt, why?.. seriously.
  • superdelphinus #60 2 years ago

F1 is a fantastic game, good on them. The only issue I seem to be having is a bit of a difficulty jump between 'intermediate' and 'expert'. In Oz I was lapping 5th in practice on intermediate but 24th (by about 2 seconds!) on expert in a lotus. Same setup and track conditions
  • Phishfood #61 2 years ago

Thought Reach woulda been up there for a bit longer. Then again it wasn't all that fun anyway.
