Halo: Reach played 70 million times

It's quite popular.

Bungie has just released some insane play statistics for Halo: Reach's first week in the wild.

According to a post on Bungie.net, the game has been played 70 million times, translating to 5901 years of combined playtime.

More than two million files have been uploaded to File Shares, 165 billion credits have been earned, 20 million daily challenges have been completed and 709,840 weekly challenges have been completed.

Not only that but it smashed Halo 3's record for concurrent unique online users by a 65 per cent margin. It goes without saying that it's been the number one most played title on Xbox Live since launch.

We can't say we're surprised. As Oli Welsh's 9/10 review plainly sets out, it's all kinds of brilliant.

    Yes, it's brilliant.

Condense all stats into one post? ^^

Mein Gott, Rachel is teh hawtness in that clip.

Now then, Reach. Those figures for concurrent users only reflect the increase in consoles connected to Live these days.

Also: 'To account for the same number of online players found in Halo: Reach during that same window (just six days), we had to run the numbers for Halo 3 going all the way back to 8/6/2010, encompassing a full 45 days of Halo 3 play!' - Are they measuring it against Halo 3's current gaming population? Why?!
  • NimbusTLD #4 2 years ago

But what does that actually mean? That it was booted 70 million times? That 70 million online games were completed? 70 million campaign levels finished? So what's these 235 million player-games played then??

It's too vague a statement for me to put any value into it. Plus... who really cares about these "larger than can be conceived" stats?

I'm happy just knowing I love the game :)

edit @coolbritannia: ahhhh, Rachel, how wonderfully pretty you used to be. Today, not so much. And about the Halo 3 comparison, it makes a big number, and everyone knows that the masses luuuuurve bigger everythings!

Just when I thought we could go one day without a Halo related news item....

Is there any other games out for the 360 at the moment?

Amusing to see EG repeatedly trying to justify the subdued tone of their review by constantly reminding us that they gave it a 9 (for Christ's sake!!!)

It's Batman: Arkham Asylum all over again - people LOVE Halo Reach even more than EG do.
  • EugenesLair #8 2 years ago

@epiazk - You should apologise for saying that! ;)

To all you people complaining about the numerous eurogamer articles on Halo.... If you've had enough, dont bloody click on the link.

Im having a blast with this game, and I have read every Halo article Eurogamer have posted since the game came out and I look forward to more.

Eurogamer posts a lot of other articles that I couldnt care less about.... Guess what? I dont click on the link.....

Geez, its almost as if its cool to whine about everything nowadays...

Like a best of halo. To many bolloxes pickin SWAT constantly online ....
  • Fab4 #11 2 years ago

i don't think its the review tone they are trying to justify, I think its the limitless Reach ads throughout the site.
  • erp #12 2 years ago

Hmmm... what was that article Eurogamer published the other day... let's see... oh that's right, it was this:

How about practicing what you preach, EG, and stop printing this meaningless statistical hyperbole?

    Another day. Another halo:reach article
  • Haloboy #14 2 years ago

EG is a constantly moving hype train, minus refreshments and comfy seats.

If I want to know how Halo Rachel is conquering the planet I'd join the official forums thanks very much all the same.

DaDon - I'm more annoyed that just yesterday they posted their own 'journalistic' article complaining about this very thing, yet here they are proving that games journalism is synonymous with 'marketing' once more.

EG, you do come off sounding everso arrogant these days.

Imagine if they were doing something useful, what could be achieved!

Can't people shut up about this fucking game for one god damn minute???

Headlines should be "70 million relentless fanboys piss themselves over mediocre FPS"
  • bzzct #20 2 years ago

So after your great article on the release hype where brains were engaged and some independent thought broke through, we're now back to pushing out official pronouncements like a PR agency?

    Shame.

    (Love the games though.)

I know that the review and other players for the most part talk about how you can't get attached to the characters so you don't much care for them which I can agree with for Carter who was a serious generic cookie cutter soldier with no personality, but I can't agree about that with Jorge, Jun, Kat and Emile. I did find Kat very annoying at first but then she started to grow on me. Jun was a nice guy from the get to as was Jorge and I couldn't stop thinking about how things played out. Same with Kat. Emile was a right tosser but again, you see his bravery near then end. I got totally attached to my noble six and I think that was the hardest part of the game for me.

Please, please don't read below if you haven't played through the whole game. I just want to share my feelings with other Reach completers (though probably all of you have by now).
The way that Jorge thought he was sacrificing himself for a better purpose and then that flotilla of supercarriers jumping in straight after was totally demoralising. Kat getting sniped unexpectedly was such a shock too, she didn't deserve to go out like that! Seeing Emile slumped next to the mac cannon, I was wandering what he was thinking in his last few moments as he bled out. The worst for me was noble six, I got much more attached to her than the stoic Master Chief of previous games and the "There'll be another time" stage was so sad to play through. I was hoping that she would've just caught a death ray from above as part of the glassing. Maybe I should have created a mr six instead of a miss. Halsey's message at the end made it even worse!

It was an amazing story experience for me anyway, and an amazing game. Thank you Bungie! Please raise the bar in the next one 343 industries...

"Between publishers' obsessive need for each major release to be "bigger" and "better" than the last one, lest it be deemed by some perverse logic a failure, feeding the media's addiction to headline-ready pronouncements and amazing-sounding but essentially meaningless stats ("over 2000 human years have been spent playing Halo: Reach online!";), it's all beginning to sound a little desperate. "
  • MaFlippinHeadHurts #23 2 years ago

I absolutely love this game, totally amazing

.....however, being teabagged on multiplayer is really annoying, shame Bungie couldn't do anything about those d...heads!
  • mcmonkeyplc #24 2 years ago

Awww Viper cant stand it. Poor weetle boy.
  • Spency #25 2 years ago

    @Jacksie66

YES! THANKYOU! I came on here just to moan about that as well! Bloody SWAT! And also Team Snipers on Haemorrage. I had to sit through one of those last night and it was so dull. What is the appeal of sitting in a corner for 10 minutes waiting for someone to walk into your sights.

(I'm only bitching because i'm not very good at those game types and they frustrate me. I feel a bit better now though.)
