Final Fantasy XIV open beta tomorrow

Client already available to closed testers.

Square Enix has announced that the promised open beta for Final Fantasy XIV will begin tomorrow, 1st September, at 1pm BST / 2pm GMT / 7pm PDT.

People who were in on the recently completed closed beta are already being invited to download the new client, which takes in a number of tweaks and changes.

Final Fantasy XIV will be released for PC on 30th September, with a special edition granting early access on 22nd September.

The PS3 version is due out in March next year.

Last week FFXIV found itself in the headlines after the game's director said it would restrict XP and skill point earnings after eight hours of play in any given week.

any word on how we get into the Open Beta? Will we need keys or will it be open open? If the former, will EG be getting some?

I second the question on whether EG will be receiving any keys?

I literally just received an email stating thus:

In preparation for the official release of FINAL FANTASY XIV on September 30, 2010 and the early release on September 22, we will be starting an open beta test to help put the finishing touches on the game. We ask that all users who can participate in the open beta test apply from the following website.

    1.Access the following URL.
    [link url=http://entry.ffxiv.com/ ]http://entry.ffxiv.com/ [/link]
    * The page will become accessible starting at 2:00 on Sep. 1, 2010.

2.Log in with your Square Enix account and have a registration code issued.
    * Depending on the access status, we may temporarily suspend the issuance of registration code. If you cannot have registration code issued, we ask that you please wait a little while before trying again.

3.Register the registration code you received by e-mail on the Square Enix Account Management System.
Click "Select Service" from "Services and Options" on the left menu. Select "FINAL FANTASY XIV" from the services available and then "Add a service account." Enter the registration code you've been issued and proceed to the end of registration.

There's no Open Beta opt-in on that page yet but you do have access to download the client which may well be worth doing before the servers become overloaded.

Is this only the PC beta?
Edit: sorry, just read the email.

    - To PlayStation 3 Version Applicants:This test phase will deal only with the Windows version of the software. Details regarding the test schedule for the PlayStation 3 version will be released by e-mail at a later date. If possible, we still ask and encourage you to take part in the testing on a Windows PC.

Yeah you just need to register. I didn't realise the first phase was for PC version. I"m just not up to playing PC games honestly, but I'm guessing if I don't at least download and login I won't be asked for the PS3 version.

Downloading the 2010.08.27.2001 patch at a blazing 25k/s. At least 26 hours till it's finished. It's playonline all over again!

If you open the file in soemthing like uTorrent it is a LOT faster.
  • rodpad #10 1 year ago

JunglistVIP, where is the torrent file located on your PC?

Open beta starts tomorrow morning - about 2am for the UK. It seems that anyone with an Squinex account will be able to get in as I've had that e-mail to all my Squinex accounts, not just the US one I used for closed beta.

Registation should be open for everything again at 2pm this afternoon.

If you want to get the client early then you can download the downloader from file planet, which will get you a little headstart on downloading the whole game from Squinex (should be ready by morning if you set it going tonight!).

Yes it is very slow. Took me 6 hours yesterday for the latest 1.2 gig patch.

"If you open the file in soemthing like uTorrent it is a LOT faster."

How do we do that? I never downloaded a .torrent file for utorrent, but am very much open to the idea! Will investigate further...
  • rodpad #16 1 year ago

    Cheers JunglistVIP, found it.
  • wardeana #17 1 year ago

I had a look at the alpha version a while back, I'm afraid I didn't give it much of a chance once i'd realised I couldn't update the screen resolution, or even use the mouse properly :( looked quite pretty though.
  • Anufea #18 1 year ago

@wardeana: Nowadays there is a separate "Final Fantasy XIV Config" application - I guess they left screen resolution settings out of the ingame menu because the PS3 version won't have them anyway...
  • JunglistVIP #19 1 year ago

A better guide to using utorrent can be found here: http://ff xiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=268...

Louiscool gives a pretty good explanation towards the end of the thread.

I don't get it - on that web page, there's nowhere to log in.

Do I just log in on the usual page?

Edit: Ah, right, it's not open yet.

The start of open beta has just been postponed. Check http://entry.ffxiv.com/ for more..
  • ZuluHero #22 1 year ago

I used the torrent method to get the files, but they get about 50% through before giving me 3 error codes. Anyone else getting that?

I'm trying the conventional patcher way atm.. but it's so sllllooooooooooooooooooww...

Kind of a PR disaster - they sent out the open beta mails just to announce that open beta has to be postponed an hour later? O_o
  • Cornwolf #24 1 year ago

Anyone know if there is a Torrent for the installer? Its taking forever and I haven't got a slow connection.
