Front Mission Evolved nudged to October

Wanzers.

Square Enix has pushed the European release of Front Mission Evolved back to 8th October, despite just under a month ago assuring us the UK was immune to collateral from the US delay.

Double Helix is busy making Front Mission Evolved for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The desktop version will support 3D.

This modern reinterpretation of Front Mission on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 tranforms the old turn-based strategy series into a third-person shooter. You'll be a Wanzer mech and stomp around shooting the snot out of anything that moves. There will be a story and there will be multiplayer.

That story concerns a future version of the world where terrorists and astronomical military budgets still dominate the news. Your Wanzer can be upgraded as the story unfolds, and those pimped-out mothers taken online to fight against others.

The PC version of Front Mission Evolved supports 3D.

"If there is any change to this we will announce it in due course" is hardly 'assuring us the UK was immune'.

Can Bramwell resist a "Bunch of Wanzers" strapline when it comes out? (no).

Why the FUCK does everything have to get remade into a 3rd person shooter these days?

Some of us like to use our bloody braincells you know!

    Amen, darkmorgado.

But then "some of us" doesn't equal millions of sales.

I loved the turn-based strategy of the old FMs :o( There no need for another Armoured Core a-like.

    @iamian

Yes - but did you know that the desktop (or PC) version will support 3D?
  • tomkuryakin #10 2 years ago

I doubt that this will sell millions.

I'd have rather another trn based strategy entry in the series. Front Mission 5 is really good and it's criminal it didn't make it out of japan although we at least have the excellent fan translation.

Does anybody actually care ? Look at it for gawds sake, it's akin to "My First Mecha Game", or some Fischer Price edition.

I don't see the point in calling it Front Mission, the brand is pretty unknown in Europe and it's nothing like the other games in the series (unfortunately). Then to have the cheek of adding 'Evolved' to it, evolution doesn't involve dumbing down :p

Can we all agree to start calling it "Front Bottom Evolved" please? :-)

my friend fabian at my right says: day one buy!!!!! thumbs up (pc version). he also wishes that the console versions of the game can play against the pc version, so that he can kick some console kiddie butt !!!

Doesn't look good at all. I quite enjoyed the nonsensically named Armoured Core: For Answer, but that was a bit of a guilty pleasure and was helped by the fact that they were practically giving the game away by the time I bought it.

I have a feeling this will sink without a trace. Even if the PC version supports 3D.

They should have just called it Front Mission: Dumbed Down, or Front Mission: Lowest Common Denominator

I've been playing Front Mission 5 recently, it's truly a shame we were denied an overseas release it marks the highpoint of the series.

If this game has something to offer I'll give it a go. I'm rather concerned that the teamwork aspect has been removed. Taking on enemy groups by yourself was always suicide in the Front Mission games it was always about pinning enemies amidst a link attacked field of fire as a team effort, being able to take them on by yourself just doesn't seem right or very Front Mission.

I think this is a dumb decision, because they've no pushed it up against Fifa 2011, Pro Evo 2011, Medal of Honour and Vanquish. I want FME a lot, but its going to potentially get buried by these more popular games. November would also be a no no because of Call of Duty 7.

Might actually be better, to keep this until new year now, Square.

It's aimed at people who don't like to think. Gone is the depth and strategy, replaced with over the top weapons and non stop repetitive action.

wow, the pc version supports 3d, whatever next in the world of gaming!
