MGS PSP sales "progressed steadily"

Castlevania, PES to do autumn business.

Sales of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker have "progressed steadily" after the game received "favourable reviews", according to Konami.

Hideo Kojima's PSP game helped Konami boost net income for the three months ended 30th June to 1.27 billion yen. That's an increase of 245 per cent on the same period last year.

The company pointed out that "[MGS: Peace Walker] became the first PSP title to receive a perfect score of 40 points in an industry magazine's cross review". That's Famitsu, in case you're wondering. Eurogamer also liked the game.

Konami noted "steady sales" of the World Cup version of Winning Eleven (PES), too. And all that despite "severe" Japanese market conditions.

The publisher looked ahead to titles like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (playable at the Eurogamer Expo 2010, don't you know) and PES 2011 to bring the yen-bucks in this autumn. Konami said there had been a "great response" to the pair at E3 in June.

Other game on their way include Karaoke Revolution Glee, a take on the popular telly series Glee, and DanceDanceRevolution for PS3.

I so want to play this game, but I'd prefer to play it on the PS3 or any other home console instead. I know I should just bite the bullet and get it for my PSP, but I prefer playing on a big screen, and I'm hardly ever on the move.

Also, I feel that I should complete the MGS: PO first, as this apparently is a continuation of that. That said, I also get the impression that Peace Walker is a very co-op/multiplayer oriented game, and I prefer my MGS in single player.

You should buy a component cable and play MGS on your big screen, its not perfect but its definatly playable like that. I enjoyed Peace Walker as much as I did MGS 4. I love fultoning prisoners .

Sort out the ludicrous price on PSN and you might have a customer.

Oh and you can indeed buy a component cable and play it on the big screen. But not if you have a phat 1000.

True Jonsan i forgot about the phat. LOL you can however get a cam that clips on the front and feeds to the tv, not that you would want to of course.

I just couldn't get on with Peace Walker, IIRC there were 3 or 4 control schemes and I just couldn't settle down with any of them. It seemed no matter how I inverted the various axes I always ended up moving the camera the wrong way in the heat of battle. The PSP desperately needed an extra analogue stick for games like this work, and trying to make the face buttons work as an analogue stick alternative just doesn't work for me. The auto-aiming option didn't work very well either. It's a shame as it seemed like there was an interesting game in there.

I fear Nintendo might be making a very big mistake only putting one analogue stick on the 3DS...

I am used to face buttons for psp shooters now, its ok for 3rd person shooters, not so good for fps.

I wish they would port Peace Walker to the PS3.

Peace walker is great and you don't need experience of the previous portable metal gear, really good story and sets the scene nicley.

@ onlyme if you want to play it on a big screen you can get a cable to connect PSP to your TV!

    @Only me

Dont worry I thought that too, but I find it a very strong SP, much stronger than PO and up there with any other metal gear

I also wanted a PS3 version, or an option to use a PS3 controller like with Resitance Retribution and then hook up my PSP 2000 to my HDTV, but seeing as though a PS3 version hasnt been announced yet I decided to buy it

and its awesome, some of the boss battles are hard as I only play SP, but its just as immersive as any other metal gear solid, and while it doesnt have gameplay variety of MGS3 (which felt like a stealth adventure playground) it has a heavy strategy RPG feel to it and because of this it has an insane amount of depth to it,

Got PW on launch day for 25 Euro new, absolute bargain.

It does have it's issues, but not in terms of controls imo.

Theres not enough stealth action gameplay, too many missions are boss, or tank/chopper fights, and you can't crawl under stuff anymore, or move while crawling at all.

I also found some extra ops (tank/chopper fights, boss fights) extremely hard, or even impossible solo, I always run out of ammo, even after using all supply marks

add me for hopes of a PS3 port of both PSP games...since i broke my hand and wrist late 2008,i find playing games on the PSP to be really painful..and also the fact that my PSP battery has just given up on me

but it really kills me that i can't play these as i love the metal gear games

i would rather play on the big screen anyway...i would even take a PS2 version maybe as a double pack of PO and PW ;P

Before anyone jumps to any conclusions that Peace Walker's single player is neutered because of optional co op - I want to stress that playing this game single player is a very good experience. This game ranks up there with God of War Chains of Olympus as one of the best PSP games I've ever played. and I didn't play multi player. Multi player is not "forced". You might have a better time in co op but alone the experience is still far above nearly every other game.

I came across this problem too though, I basically stopped playing once I completed everything else apart from the extra ops boss battles which are too hard for me alone. Thats a good thing however; this game needs the additional challenge and I'm hoping to nag a friend into getting a PSP so that we can co op those darn vehicles.
