PES global sales shoot past 70 million

Konami reports solid figures.

Worldwide sales of Pro Evolution Soccer have shot past the 70 million sales barrier, Konami has announced.

As it prepares to launch the next game in the series, PES 2012, Konami said the football franchise continues to "uphold strong repeat sales".

The Japanese publisher saw a 3.3 per cent increase in revenue during the first three months of its 2012 financial year to 54,915 million yen (£423m). Profit for the quarter was 4,043 million yen (£31m) – up a whopping 220 per cent.

Konami will release PES 2012, Neverdead and Silent Hill Downpour in the coming months.

It plans to launch PlayStation Vita and Wii U games, too. "Amidst such a backdrop, our belief is that we can increase the number of outlets for Konami game content through the appearance of new devices by developing our business around the content," it said in its financial statement.

"We will propose ways of playing games that match the characteristics of each device."
