We know we're a bit late with this, but what the heck - those talented fellows behind the Desert Combat modification for Battlefield 1942 have gone and released alpha 0.4. Fans of the mod will likely already be informed of this, but the update features a huge wad of fixes and some major additions to the game.

In the way new of vehicles, you can expect the opposition technical pickup with mounted .50 cal machine gun and recoilless rifle, new civilian cars, the Mirage fighter jet, the F-15C fighter, and the F-14 with pilot and bomber positions. Other additions include the SA-3 SAM site, the OSA anti-ship vessel. But it doesn't end there! Oh no! For there are three new maps to get busy with: Weapons Bunkers, Medina Ridge and Basrah, as well as revised spawn positions on Oil Field and Kafji Docks.

Aside from all this new content, there's a large amount of bug fixing, new sounds and new models all over the shop, details of which you can gather from the the official download page, along with a nice list of mirrors. Be warned though, all this new content comes at a price; a full installation is 573MB, and an upgrade from .39 is 233MB - yeow! Still, at least "IT IS FREE", as we were so emphatically reminded by one of our esteemed readers yesterday.
