Pikmin's portable side-scrolling spin-off, Hey! Pikmin, now has a release date of 28th July on 3DS.
Nintendo announced the release date at the top of its Nintendo Direct stream tonight.
Like other Pikmin titles, this handheld outing puts players in the space boots of stranded astronaut Captain Olimar as he befriends sentient vegetables and manipulates them into doing his bidding. It's not as cruel as it sounds, given that these things don't exactly excel at self-preservation, but now they have a purpose: to get you off this rock!
Shigeru Miyamoto will be debuting Pikmin Short Movies, an anthology of three Pikmin short films he produced, at this year's The Tokyo International Film Festival running from 25th-31st October.
Nintendo will reveal Pikmin Wii U at E3 in June, it has announced.
Yesterday an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in Spanish newspaper El Mundo suggested an appearance at E3. Now Nintendo has confirmed it.
"In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Pikmin game will be shown at the E3 Expo in June," a Nintendo spokesperson said. "He believes that anyone who has played Pikmin games in the past will enjoy playing."
Update: Zavvi has informed Eurogamer that the Pikmin 3DS listing on its website was a mistake.
"In the last seven years, there's been nothing like it," I wrote in my review of New Play Control! Pikmin a couple of months back. I eulogised the surreal strategy adventure's charm, still-striking originality, perfect balance and faultless new pointer control - but gave it the mildly disappointing score of 7. On this occasion at least, there was method to my madness.
"Only, of course, there has: its sequel," I wrote. "And this presents us with the biggest problem by far with this release. Pikmin 2 is also due a New Play Control! reissue this year, and it's a better game in every respect. It's longer and more sophisticated, with more varied Pikmin and enemy types; it has co-operative and competitive multiplayer; it has randomised caves with finite Pikmin numbers, ideal for the game's challenge mode; it has no time limit. It represents much better value, and we're hard-pressed not to recommend you hold off and buy that instead."
The happy day has come: you don't need to hold off any longer (well, not any longer than a week - it's out on Friday 24th). And I don't need to qualify my statements any more, or temper my love of Pikmin with a stingy score. Pikmin 2 is back, and in the last five years, there's been nothing like it.
Nintendo has announced that the New Play Control version of Pikmin 2 will be released across Europe on 24th April.
Nintendo has explained to Eurogamer that Wii remakes of GameCube games will not be full price as retailers suggested yesterday.
