Jurassic Park

Key events

The fourth Jurassic Park film has just come out, a full 22 years after the original 1993 Steven Spielberg masterpiece. And why not? The original film was a classic with its awe-inspiring dinosaurs, all hungry toothy grins and almost comically arrogant eye movements; an incredible score by John Williams that's equal parts wondrous, exciting and sentimental; multi-faceted characters whose ecological concerns conflict with their own inner child that drove them to study dinosaurs in the first place; and its rich setting, Isla Nublar, a comic concoction of untamed jungle choked by corporate interests in a soulless bid to appeal to the masses.

Daytona! Robin DLC! Rayman Origins for 47.99!

Sega's revival of Dreamcast racer Daytona USA heads up this week's list of downloadable launches on the EU PlayStation Store.

Daytona boasts smoother graphics, a sharper soundtrack and an unwavering 60 frames-per-second, all of which helped Martin wave a 9/10-bearing chequered flag in Eurogamer's Daytona USA review of last month's XBLA version.

PlayStation Plus subscribers are rewarded with a 30 per cent off the price of Daytona and 20 per cent discount off 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which launches as a download this week for 19.99 for everyone else.

Remember that bit in Jurassic Park when the T-Rex attacks the cars, and the kids are inside, and Jeff Goldblum jumps out of the car with a flare and distracts the dinosaur by pressing up, down?

Or what about the part when Laura Dern is chased out of the electricity substation by raptors and has to dash across open ground to the safety of the visitor's centre by pressing left and right at just the right time?

Hmm. Maybe not.

Jurassic Park confirmed for Xbox 360

Telltale's tie-in gets full boxed release.

Jurassic Park: The Game is heading to Xbox 360 this Autumn as a full retail release, developer Telltale Games has confirmed.

Though the recently delayed game is still expected to follow Telltale's traditional episodic release structure on PC and Mac, the 360 retail version will gather together all the content on one disc.

A PlayStation 3 version will launch "simultaneously" with the Xbox 360 game, though Telltale is yet to confirm whether that too will be a single boxed release or staggered over PlayStation Network, as has been the case with its recent Back to the Future series.
