Frenetic twin-stick shooter Assault Android Cactus has finally left Early Access for an official release on PC, Mac and Linux.

Developed by folks who previously worked on L.A. Noire, Alien: Isolation, and Need for Speed at the Brisbane-based studio Witch Beam, Assault Android Cactus may not sound that unique on paper, as twin-stick shooters are rather common these days, but seeing it in motion certainly recalls the glorious highlights of Housemarque's Super Stardust series.

Up to four players can play co-op wherein they choose between nine playable characters tackling 25 stages. The stages morph and dynamically introduce new challenges too, so it's not simply rote memorisation here.

There's also four game modes including a regular story campaign, an endless arcade mode, daily challenges and a Boss Rush mode.

You can even unlock some pretty unique bonus features like a first-person perspective, AI teammates and mega weapons.

Assault Android Cactus has been in development for quite some time, as it was originally targeting a Jan 2014 release.

"Over these last few years, we've worked hard to polish and perfect Assault Android Cactus; keeping in mind everything we've learned from players in Early Access," said Witch Beam director Sanatana Mishra. "Now that Cactus is finally out, we can't wait to see what people think and are excited about all the new strategies they'll develop to place crazy high scores all over the leaderboards!"

Assault Android Cactus usually goes for Ł10.99 / $14.99, but it's 20 per cent off at Ł8.79 / $11.99 until 30th September.

PS4, Vita and Wii U ports are due in Q1 2016.
