Very nice. I like what the designer has to say about pacing, and the insight into sounbd design is welcome indeed.

I like how you layer an orchestral soundtrack on right after the guy says "We didn't want a big orchestral soundtrack... actually I hate that"

I really liked to see the insight in to sound design. The scape that they have in BF3 produced impressive, immersive audio. I'm very pleased that the sound is carefully prepared, not just slapping an orchestral piece in and calling that "the tense bit" until the track runs, regardless of what a player is actually doing. Using DICE's approach, you can essentially wrap the sound around that location, or player. Actually using the game sound to communicate, it's something that I always like to see.

anyone know if the beta is still running or has it been taken down?
  • superted1974 #6 8 months ago

    Taken down yesterday.
I was faced with a "connectio to EA lost" type message.
I only found out the beta trial had finished by googling and going to gaming site (no EG!)

beta ended yesterday on PC not sure about consoles.

Oh the irony. This has to be the first video clip I've seen in a while that doesn't have an advert for Battlefield 3 before it.

The sound designer might not like orchestral music slapped onto a game... But I still think they've strayed too far from the Battlefield theme with part 3. For me, it's instantly recognizable stuff; fitting well into the whole military theme. I do miss the theme, or a proper variation to it.
But you never know what the intro movie will bring! ;)

For the rest: loved the beta, the game will be awesome!! Surely my neighbors will have fun too when I pump up the Dolby on October 27!

I actually quite like the new variation on the BF theme. I played the beta so much I could hear it in my brain when trying to get to sleep...

SOund design is amazing from DICE, they will win awards left right and centre for it as usual.

As much as the BF3 vs CoD articles will POUR in around the beginning of November, and sites like IGN praise CoD with a 9.7 and give BF3 an 8.5 for being too much like CoD, too much of a run-and-gun SP game with only set-pieces...hmm, sounds familiar.

CoD gets a high rating when games that do the same get a lower rating because of the reasons CoD gets a high score...makes no sense.

CoD gets a 9+ for having amazing set-pieces, but other games get rated down because of their amazing set-pieces as you never feel the game is reacting to you..wtf..

Not that I actually care how people review BF3 now. Still getting it rain or shine.

"BF3 vs MW3 face off article please ..."

here you go. BF3 for people who want an authentic fps wargame with team work and depth. MW3 for 11 years olds with an attention span of a tadpole.

The sound-effects are so great that I found my self firing on... nowhere, just to hear 'em.

I've Logitech Z-5500 5.1 ( one of the best investments I did for my PC gaming experience - I change PCs occasionally, but Speakers remain the same ) and X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum ( same goes for the Sound-Card ). The EAX effect and the clean fidelity, both turn my room into a real war zone.

    Interesting, thanks
the insights on the sound design were an added bonus since for me this has been one of the better elements of the game
(well MP demo & vids) I am also REALLY curious how the console graphics will end up looking like... since they are constantly touting the high quality game graphics as one of the BIG points of the game. I am guessing the PS3 will come in last as usual :/

Sound has always been a speciality for DICE, can't think of anyone else that actually come near

cool video, but ultimately they claim they just making their own game but you can really see moments where COD has bled into to appeal to those sort of fans. But still really looking forward to it.
