SEGA has decided to bring Yakuza 3 to Western markets in March next year. The tricksy publisher told us earlier this year there were "no plans" for such a move.

Exclusive to PS3, Yakuza 3 will follow Kiryu Kazuma who, with help from his adopted daughter Haruka, runs an orphanage. But his gangster past soon catches up with him and he's back to booting people in the face.

As the first game in the series to appear on PS3, Yakuza 3 boasts various visual and technical upgrades - although it doesn't quite shake its PS2 roots.

can this be played without having played the first 2 though? I have too much to play between now and march. I couldn't possibly catch up in time

THis is day one for me.

But ,my wallet is crying in advance ....I have to buy WKC ,Final Fantasy XIII ,God of War 3 ,Yakuza 3 and Heavy Rain at the very least ...thats 350 euros in games and I am not considering things I want as Modnation Racers ,Bioshock 2 ,Battlefield BC 2,Star Ocean IV ,MAG..lets not forget the Sony Wand that I am getting too....

Too much money in so few time!

This was true.. hence why every develop delayed their games until March.

Definitely not a good time to release this, I'm very happy that it's finally happening but I just don't see it doing any better, especially without any kind of marketing push and being sent into the February/March line up.

"As the first game in the series to appear on PS3" - that's not quite right. The first PS3 Yakuza was Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan!, set in the Edo period.

Anyway, terrific news. Probably my most-wanted game of Q1 now, short of Nintendo announcing a March release for Galaxy 2.

Yakuza 3 ? March ? Along with FFXIII, God of War III and other Q1 giants ?

Yakuza 3 is gonna be Left 4 Dead 3 in March if you know what I mean ?

This isn't very good timing for a game SEGA refused to release in the West due to poor sales.

I expect a here-we-go-AGAIN situation with Yakuza 4 !

This news delights me. A few months back I said I'd buy a PS3 if Yakuza 3 received an English language release. With the arrival of Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls I decided to buy one anyway, so this is just a big, fat, face-smashingly awesome bonus. Hail SEGA!

Also, the video game industry is bonkers. How do they do it? They all decide christmas 09 is too crowded so they ALL decide March is perfect. So far we have... february= WKC, Heavy Rain, ModNation Racers, and then march= GOW3, GT5, FF13, Yakuza 3. Those the just the games I'd like to play. Add in the multiplats and holy shit.

I really don't know a huge amount about these games. Everyone seems really excited. This reminds me of the Demon's Souls review thread. Barely a bellend in sight. After being extremely pleased with my import of Demon's Souls I may take a chance on this! Cult classic games FTW!

I have never played the previous but I did read the Eurogamer review of the Japanese version and it looks very interesting, so I will definitely getting. Be a toss up between this and Bad Company 2, Heavy Rain and MAG as to which I get. May have to just take the hit...

The communal decision to move everything to March is going to backfire spectacularly, and Yakuza 3 is likely to be one of the casualties. Then Sega will use it as an excuse to not release Yakuza 4 over here rather than release it next December when I fear the PS3 might be left wanting for some blockbusters after seeing the big 2009 releases all come out in Q1.

Never mind, this has to be seen as great news.
