XBLA Madballs game arriving tomorrow
Along with Secret of Monkey Island.
Microsoft has confirmed two new titles are scheduled to hit Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow.
First up is Madballs in... Babo: Invasion, a game based on the popular Madballs toys from the eighties. You can play as your own avatar, take on up to 16 players online or enjoy four player co-op. There are five combat modes, ten levels and 21 maps. The game will cost 1200 Microsoft Points, equivalent to GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40.
More retro fun is on the way with The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. The classic adventure game has been given a 1080p makeover, voiceovers by the original cast, a remastered score and hot-swapping so you can switch between Special Edition and Classic modes at any time. It's yours for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).

I would like to see more of these old classics remade in HD though so long as the integrity of the original art is left intact for the most part. I know a lot of people will prefer the originals, warts and all, but I think the only thing that dates these games, especially the ones from the Amiga and early PC days, is their low resolutions, limited colour palettes and blocky graphics, which makes it sometimes hard to spot usable objects without careful mousing over each location.
I'm sure as many people will disagree with me as agree but I hope the Monkey Island Special Edition is a huge success and paves the way for more classic remakes such as Monkey Island 2 and Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders (another two faves of mine). The great news is that it includes both the old and new versions so there's nothing for anyone to get upset about, the original is still there if you want it but the remix might attact new fans to the genre.
