XBL gets Burnout Revenge, NFS ProStreet

Yours for 20 quid a pop.

Two new games are now available for download via Xbox Live.

Well, they're old games actually. First up is Burnout Revenge, which initially appeared on the original Xbox back in September 2005. A 360 version arrived six months later and Kristan liked it so much he gave the game 8/10.

Fans of high-speed dangerous driving will also cheer to hear Need for Speed ProStreet is available. This game didn't do so well first time around, only managing to get a 5/10 out of Tom. But still.

The downloadable versions of Burnout Revenge and NFS ProStreet are priced at £19.99, yes each.

would be interesting to see new titles on there like the Batman game
and see how well or badly they sell
  • awb83 #2 2 years ago

price a bit to high i think, maybe if they were about £10 - £15
  • insincere_dave #3 2 years ago

Whilst I'm not a hater of all things downloadable (Worms 2 / Trials HD are well worth downloading), I've actually removed my credit card payment option from Live in case one of my mates accidentally splashes £20 on one of these by mistake when perusing the Game Marketplace. I'd recommend you do the same to avoid heartbreak when you end up paying £50 for Fusion Frenzy 2 or some shit!

I got NFS: Pro Street a couple of months ago brand new for £5 from HMV online. I just don't understand why they are charing £20 for some of these games
  • frunk #5 2 years ago

So ladies and gentlemen - you have a choice...

Pop down to your local store and get it second hand for £10
Buy the "Classics Collection" copy online for £17.59
    Or
Buy it here for £20. Then you have the pleasure of putting it on media you have to buy yourself; about £3 of the diamond encrusted HDD ( it IS diamond encrsted isn't it? Must be at that price!)

Microsoft have really dropped the ball on this one... I think the convenience of getting it "instantly" really does not matter with a game that came out three and half years ago... if you have waited that long I am sure you can wait 20 mins to go to the shop or a day to come through the post.
  • Roamer #6 2 years ago

No, I don't think we'll be buying that. Why set a flat fee for all 360 Games on Demand titles? It makes no sense. I might be willing to pay 40 euros (I live in Norway) for Mass Effect, but not for NFS or Burnout: Not Paradise City.
  • Bealsy #7 2 years ago

FIFA 09 is on there too. That's good for £20. Kinda.
  • cyacomini #8 2 years ago

"Yours for 20 quid a pop"

    BIG mistake - ouch.

Revenge can be had for as little as £9.99 at retail and I'm sure Pro Street isn't too much more.
  • ZuluHero #9 2 years ago

Yeah, comparable to instore prices my ASS. I knew that Microsoft couldn't resist the premium on these. I thought the whole point of DD was to remove all the overheads of printruns and retailer markups, and to give that discount back to the end-user.

I wonder how popular the GOD's are proving, exactly?
  • supersaintee #10 2 years ago

This really isn't the way to kick start downloadable games. You can buy most of the games available on there for less elsewhere and as frunk says, if you've waited this long then another day or two won't kill you to save a bit of cash! Downloadable content has the advantage that you can redownload if you need to. If a disc gets damaged then there isn't always an easy fix. £20 for that privilege though, considering you could probably buy most of the games twice for that!

The other drawback for a lot of people is that there is no way for you to trade in the game after you've completed it.

Pricing and/or content needs to be seriously reconsidered if this is to take off in any kind of way.
  • BiscuitBase #11 2 years ago

    Clearly way too expensive.
  • cyacomini #12 2 years ago

"This really isn't the way to kick start downloadable games"

You are damn right - any sensible money man should know it's better to sell 10,000 copies at £10 than it is to sell 5,000 copies at £20. It's not about how much money a title brings in, but how many people choose to download it.

At the end of the day, people are less likley to 'jump in' at these crazy prices.
  • Thalanos #13 2 years ago

I would really like to know whether anyone is buying that this price. Short of being held hostage in front of your Xbox there is little reason not to get a cheaper physical copy from an online or highstreet store.

I'm fairly sure I bought Burnout revenge cheaper than this years ago!
  • siro #14 2 years ago

Of course these prices are comparable to in-store! They are much, much more expensive. See, I did it. ;)
  • asphaltcowboy #15 2 years ago

Quite fancy Burnout Revenge... just not for £20...
£10 and I'd be on it straight away, even if you can get it for even cheaper than that!

"It's not about how much money a title brings in, but how many people choose to download it"

I think it is probably both ;)
  • dirk_aircool #17 2 years ago

agreed . too expensice , and as mentioned ( FRUNK ) it uses up a lot of expensive HDD space . also you could go to get several used games for around £20-00 , or even new unloved games from most supermarkets ( ASDA sell at stupid low prices sometimes less than an XBL game ). this may just apply to me but 2 years ago I had unlimited broadband but Kingston Comunications have chaneged the rules so I am only allowed 80gb per month , that wont last long with 2 teenagers and me and xbox live . ( I'm not even gonna get started on the speed I pay for compared to what I get ) .
  • J-B #18 2 years ago

You can buy the games for a fiver each, £20 is a complete con. When will MS and Sony start taking digital distribution seriously.
  • mr_ruberfon #19 2 years ago

they are too expensive, but in terms of HD space can't you download, delete and redownload later, much like steam?
  • stepneg #20 2 years ago

Who are MS targeting here with these prices, it doesn't matter how much disposable income you have you would have to be a complete idiot to spend £20 on games which cost £5-£10 everywhere else!
  • Ryze #21 2 years ago

    £20?

I'd have gone for Revenge for a tenner.
  • weejok #22 2 years ago

Stupid, stupid Microsoft prices! Bought Revenge on ebay for £7 (mint condition) and I've seen Pro Street selling for around the same. Surely nobody is buying these??? PLEASE DON'T!!!
  • ryohazuki1983 #23 2 years ago

Prostreet is £7.95 on ShopTo. £20 is way too much considering you can buy it for a lot less on disc and still be able to resell it or give it away to a mate.
  • Retroid #24 2 years ago

They're charging those prices because they're the RRP in the main.
  • miiiguel #25 2 years ago

MS/Sony/Nintendo can't upset retailers - at least for now - they have too much power, don't expect great deals from HW manufacters online stores.
  • Bazfrag #26 2 years ago

Finally stopped reading Revenge as Paradise, and now i see where the complaints are coming from.
  • Vin #27 2 years ago

    Sanctioned robbery.

    That's all it is.
  • linea #28 2 years ago

So let me get this straight.... they're asking 20 quid for the emulated xbox version of Burnout Revenge when the native 360 version is easily available for under a tenner?

    Houston, we have a FAIL
  • peterfll #29 2 years ago

I prefer Revenge to Paradise, but I'm a bit of a Burnout nutter.

This approach from MS on fully downloadable content is still really half-hearted don't you think? Old titles for high prices?
  • Ryze #30 2 years ago

    ^
    ^

It's the 360 version. Yes it's a serious rip-off. They should let Play and Shopto sell codes for these games. They'd sell the codes dirt cheap, I reckon.
  • Retroid #31 2 years ago

Revenge did come out on 360, I know as I've got it; rather good it is too, but obviously not £20 worth of good these days!

Achievements are a right sod to get too, some of the hardest in any game I've played...
  • Collymilad #32 2 years ago

    Nice one MS.

Congrats on making GoD useless, and there was so much potential there.
  • Peew971 #33 2 years ago

Is Whinners Tuesday the new weekly event? Will all whinners complain about the price tag evrey single Tuesday when new games are released on GOD? I'm sure everyone got the message now and I'm sure Microsoft doesn't care. Just don't buy them and move on!
  • Retroid #34 2 years ago

You don't have to post that, EarlBassett, just say it as you're clicking negative on the post ;)
  • rogueJT #35 2 years ago

Burnout Revenge might actually be worth £20. It's hardish to find, and it's a great game.

Plus you really have to earn your gamerscore. I really put in the time and perfected every track, getting me 695/1000. (the average score is 92/1000)

    Twat"

The entire gaming community these days is full of whiners, seriously I've said this before gamers these days are never ever happy with everything and anything

That's true, though they realy gives you a sense of acomplishment. Great game, btw, do get it wherever you fancy but you wont regret it. I need 2 more Signature Takedowns for the full 1K!!!!

Need for Speed: ProStreet is such a turgid and dull racing game that Microsoft/EA should be paying people to play it, not asking money from them!
  • interceptor #39 2 years ago

If publishers are really serious about reducing the number of second hand games sold (which gives them nothing in revenue), then they really need to put big pressure on Microsoft to be much more aggressive with their GOD pricing.

Charging twice the amount for a digital download that you can pick up a used game disc for is not an incentive for me to stop getting my games used from Gamestation or Cex.
  • Gyruss #40 2 years ago

I'd love to grab a copy of Burnout Revenge. I might do so by wandering down to my local Gamestation or GAME. It'll be half the price, I'll get hold of it faster, it won't use up a chunk of my monthly download limit, and it won't take up a quarter of my 20GB drive which I haven't upgraded due to the extortionate price of 360 HDs.
  • iN5OMANiAC #41 2 years ago

    No thanks Microsoft
  • smelly #42 2 years ago

I bought Burnout Paradise for $20 brand new - with a box.

    This is a crap deal

Wake me up when they're $5.
  • RobTheBuilder #43 2 years ago

    £20?

    £20?

Are these games priced by people who have never heard of Pre-owned or price reductions?
If I don't buy it at £10 in Gamestation I ain't downloading it at twice the cost.

    Idiotic.
  • bivith #44 2 years ago

Burnout Revenge 360 is the best Burnout game after Burnout 2, but £20 for a 4 yr old game is madness.
