Wii gets full-size exercise bike

And remote-compatible dumbbells.

Bigben Interactive has unveiled Cyberbike, "The very first videogame that comes with an exercise bike."

It's in development for the Wii, astonishingly. The game involves riding "some of the most improbable vehicles ever imagined" around 18 circuits, on land, sea and air.

As you go you'll clean up sources of pollution or something and unlock new accessories. There are three game modes - Fitness, Story and Multiplayer ("Up to four players taking turns.")

Bigben describes the bundled exercise bike as "a genuine innovation". It comes complete with an adjustable saddle and handlebars so the whole family can have a go. What's more, it's compatible with other games too - like Mario Kart, for example. Check out our gallery to see the bike in action.

Or how about My Body Coach? This Wii title will provide you with a personal programme tailored to your age, sex, weight and physical condition. "Famous trainer to Hollywood stars" Valérie Orsoni will track your progress and offer advice. She'll even tell you what to eat.

My Body Coach comes bundled with two 500g dumbbell peripherals which your Wii remotes slot into. Then you can have a go at some muscle strengthening or cardio training, with your every movement tracked by your virtual coach.

Cyberbike will be released in January, while My Body Coach is out on 20th November.

I wonder how well it plays with Mario Kart.
  • Canyarion #5 2 years ago

If this would have been closer to April 1, I wouldn't have believed it.
  • mkreku #6 2 years ago

I could see myself enjoying this.. if they made a game about Tour de France and let me ride the entire distance. It would take me a year but I'd love it.
  • SeesThroughAll #7 2 years ago

    I'm shocked.

If people are that much into exercise, why not buy a REAL exercise bike? I heard those things are able to measure the speed at which you pedal without a Wii!
  • beastmaster #8 2 years ago

I am waiting for Wii Gym
  • Zomoniac #9 2 years ago

My exercise bike cost £50 new from Argos. It looks approximately 7 trillion times better built and more durable than this. And this will cost at least twice as much. People are silly.
  • mkreku #10 2 years ago

But can you hook your Argos exercise bike to the TV and pedal your way through an imaginary land with fat plumbers and talking tomatoes? I didn't think so!
  • cianchristopher #11 2 years ago

The Wii is without doubt "the gamer's console of choice"........
  • Ceatlan #12 2 years ago

I've always wanted one of the exercise bikes which come with a screen and virtual races, but they are bloody expensive. If the quality of this is good enough and the price is right I may go for it.
  • mkreku #13 2 years ago

Oh, and I can't wait for Ellie's video review of this :D
  • Toothball #14 2 years ago

Wait, I thought that picture of the bike was supposed to be ironic. Should have known better really.
  • spekkeh #15 2 years ago

I was going to say that wiimote fitted dumbells was exactly the thing wii fitness games were still missing. But lol 500g? To create that extra muscle in your pinky finger?
  • Waffleaber #16 2 years ago

Actually this isn't a bad idea, I know the tetris game installed on the bikes at my gym keeps me on them longer.

Unfortunately I can see the bike either being too expensive, poorly built or both.

Also: Zomoniac; £50? That must have been an end of catalogue item surely? Even a basic well built one will set back at least £100.
  • seasidebaz #17 2 years ago

    @spekkeh:

Have you ever seen an old person trying to lift weights? 500gram is their limit.

Target audience and all that, innit.
  • Zomoniac #18 2 years ago

    @Waffleaber

It's this one. Was a limited offer for a day as part of their January sale this year, 80% off. Granted it's normally £250 (currently £125 in the sale) so a bit of an unfair comparison, but it was still £50 for a time, so my point still stands.
  • Zomoniac #19 2 years ago

It would be a nice idea if they offered different bundles of these games with different stuff. Like EA Active is great, but really any halfway fit person needs to buy a stronger band to get anything out of it. 500g is just silly, but if they're going for the kids and grannies and fat housewives market then it makes sense. They should be making it available with 1, 5, 10 or 15kg weights.
  • Mkwone #20 2 years ago

But i play games because i'm fat, lazy and don't want to excercise.
  • mode7 #21 2 years ago

The screen-shot reminds me of a game i played in the arcade about 10 years ago, although i can't remember the name of it. You sit on a bike kinda thing but in the game you are flying in the sky, but when you dive down to the ground there are these huge fans underneath the arcade cabinet that blow air on to you as if you were really falling! Happy Days!

Does anyone remember this game, or what it was called?
  • xentar #22 2 years ago

the "bike" looks terrible and my bet is that it will break pretty soon unless only small kids and incredibly thin women will be riding it.

Not to mention that there are few training bikes with computer interface allowing you to peddal in realistic environments with automtic gear changes to reflect uphill or downhill passages of the computer environment. It may not be a game per se but seems much more relevant than this fugly piece of manure
  • The-Bodybuilder #23 2 years ago

If you want this, why don't go buy yourself a REAL bike and ride in your park and visit new locations, and ride up hills?
And 500g dumbells? Kids lift heavier cereal boxes than that.
  • Chazmeister #24 2 years ago

Why just restrict the bike to the Wii, since it doesn't seem to use the remote, surely it would also be viable on the PS3 and 360?

@Chazmeister if they were to make that for Xbox and PS they would need to actualy work on tha software part... Even the Wii cna handle much better images than were are shown on the screenshots...
  • Red_Bool #28 2 years ago

I don't care what anyone says, but this might actually work!

Just imagine this as an alternative to the boring home-trainers. But only if it would also adapt the force feedback depending on the terrain and weather (uphill/downhill, wind direction).
  • weejok #29 2 years ago

Oh Fuck OFF!!!! Just when you thought you'd seen every piece of stupid plastic crap add on for the Wii!! Seriously who buys all this shit?

I think you mean Prop Cycle by Namco.
  • Darkbeat #33 2 years ago

Guys it's not even April 1st yet! D:

Aaand I'll wait for Wii chain. A piece of white chain that you use to connect the two Wii-motes together sweet nunchuck action. Will not ACTUALLY come with any real fighting game but instead be bundled with Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo '10 at a low cost of 50 quid.
  • Eurolamer #34 2 years ago

  • altitude2k #35 2 years ago

I dismissed this as a waste of money and time and effort when I first read this. But the principle of the idea is actually very good. Exercise bikes are as boring as hell - same as treadmills. You get no new scenery and the only form of achievement comes through a couple of digits on the screen. Some kind of visual feedback for the effort you are putting in would make the world of difference - for me it would, anyway.

Having said that, I'm very unconvinced about the quality of the bike etc. I would be much happier if this was something you could plug into an existing bike.

How many add-ons/peripherals does the Wii actually need?!?! :o

  • penhalion #38 2 years ago

I f*&king told you guys that the Wii was effectively being bought by fat ladies who think it's some miracle weight loss machine and that it's not really consiered as a games machine by those buying it!

I think this proves my point. I only hope Natal and the wand don't go the same way, otherwise EA and Activision will start making exercise games for the masses and gaming is effectively going to go the way of the dino! It will become more cost effective to create the next Bike Me Fit than the next Modern warfare....*weeps*
  • Zomoniac #39 2 years ago

    @altitude2k

Perhaps, but I find that being aware of doing exercise makes me much more inclined to struggle and give in. Since you have have it in front of a TV anyway wouldn't just sticking a bike in front of a 30 minute or hour long TV programme help to distract from the pain and therefore lessen the chance of giving up? That's what I do anyway.

First thing that popped into my head as well when I read this. I know exactly the game you mean but I can't remember the name either. It was a bit rubbish though to be fair...
  • Dan234 #42 2 years ago

The only remote control for the Wii that's missing that I can think of is the facepalm glove.
  • altitude2k #43 2 years ago

    @ Zomoniac

I do a lot of running and am used to seeing where I'm going and not having that sense of distance or achievement makes my exercise feel quite unfulfilling and dull - even if I've got my iPod in or I'm watching TV. Maybe it's just me but taking my mind off the exercise isn't the objective - getting the most out of it is what I find rewarding.

    How long till Wii Wife

A blow up doll that measures your love making.(you have to shove the controller up your arse).
  • Joco84 #45 2 years ago

I play fifa while on my Carl Lewis machine, no need for this piece of Wii-shite!
  • FogHeart #46 2 years ago

The first bike to do this sort of thing was the Reebok CyberRider. You simply plugged it into the gamepad port on the PS2, used controls on the handlebars, and pedalling was like pressing X - the faster you pedal, the harder X is 'pressed'.

That meant that it could work with any racing game, as long as the game was OK with D Pad left/right instead of analogue stick. Worked great with Burnout 2.

But this? This is a rip-off, or just badly thought out. Why do you need a separate bike? Why not invent a game where you strap the wiimote to one leg, get on ANY exercise bike and pedal? It'll work like the jogging in Wii Fit, the up/down acceleration taken to be a pedals revolution. Or just a unit you can clip on to your exercise bike, plug in the Wiimote, and it would work like the cyberrider did?

The stupid thing about this is that you need to buy a separate bike, and if that bike is pants, the game fails. If you tried to make it work with existing equipment, then it'd be cheaper, better (because it's using the bike people are comfortable with, because they own and use it) and more practical (as it won't need storage space of its own).

I can't believe that this is on the console made by the same company as the N64.
  • kangarootoo #48 2 years ago

I seem to recall there being some discussion ages ago about how much cheaper the Wii was compared to the other consoles out there. One of its big selling points as a recall. Funny how things change.

At least 16 would bo ok.

  • smelly #51 2 years ago

    1. To all those who are suggesting this is nintendo.. and not understanding it's a 3rd party dev.. fail

    2. I think it's a good idea. Excercise bikes are expensive, the most expensive part seeems to be the computer display which tells you how you're doing/calories burned/etc. If you take that information away from the device and put it on the games console - you have a win win situation. Build entertainment around it.. even more so!
  • dllord #52 2 years ago

Now i've seen it fucking all!
  • YourMessageHere #53 2 years ago

Oh good grief. Please, anyone thinking of getting this, either buy a proper bike or go to the gym instead. It'll be cheaper, more social, it could lead to other exercises you like, it will save you the storage space, you won't fall off due to the tiny legs, and it won't encourage these pillocks who make it to keep churning out this bilge. The graphics will be better too.
  • bionutz #54 2 years ago

I would definitely buy such a bike, I mean winter is coming you know. If I could compete on it in a nice looking game, going up the mountain and maybe even the Tour de France, I'd get it. But only if it's high quality, for which I would even pay more than 100Euros... but not more than 200.
  • TurboBailey #55 2 years ago

Lol! Why dont Wii owners just go to the gym
  • MARKIV #56 2 years ago

Surely there should be some sort green ban on producing all this polluting manufactured one minute wonder plastic crap! Rock Band & Guitar Hero take note too!

What next, a plastic jet ski, aeroplane or howabout a plastic coffin!!!
    Edited by 1 at 13/10/09 @ 21:52
  • smelly #57 2 years ago

@TurboBailey & YourMessageHere : Yes, you're totally correct - Why would you own your own excercise bike at home - when you can pay monthly to use a a sweaty disease ridden excercise bike in the gym?!?

Grow up children.. and while you're at it.. go tell all the millions of people who own their own excercise bikes/treadmills/etc that you know better than them!

Now some of you fangirls are just clutching at straws.. I dont understand the relevance of this here at all?

It's an excercise bike, which is designed to plug into your console instead of having the computer on board.. What does that have to do with whether or not the wii is cheap?

  • smelly #61 2 years ago

I always thought paperboy the game would be great on an excercise bike.

Work in the wiimote with WM+ to register the "throwing" motion for the newspapers.. and it'd rock!

... hmmm.. i'm off to write a design proposal for atari.. i'm gonna be RICH!
  • YourMessageHere #62 2 years ago

    @ smelly

Perhaps for all the reasons I already gave, plus the blindingly obvious fact that you get access to the entire gym rather than just one machine for the money. You do seem to have the most remarkable talent for reading without actually comprehending. And for being pointlessly belligerent and patronising.
  • FogHeart #63 2 years ago

Perhaps you could concede that there are people who see that it's necessary to exercise but utterly loathe the social aspect of the gym? For whom there can be no possibility of finding another exercise you like because you don't like exercise (in my case because I have no idea what this 'endorphin' thing is that people refer to, it's just painpainpainover), for whom the tedium and ache of exercise is only mitigated by occupying the mind elsewhere, perhaps in a gaming activity?

But I'm conceding that this product should not exist. Exercise games should be made to work with existing equipment, not force you to buy new bits.
