UT3 Titan Pack delayed a fortnight

PS3 certification holds up release.

Today's planned release of the Unreal Tournament 3 Titan Pack has been delayed after the expansion took longer than expected to clear PS3 certification.

Epic's Steve Polge said the hang-up was down to "circumstances out of our control" in a post on the official forums (thanks Kotaku) and added that the Titan Pack would be released on 19th March instead.

"The PC patch contains updates that will improve mods cooked for PS3, so we'll be taking advantage of this extra time to work with mod authors to make sure the best mods for UT3 are cooked with the latest patch," he concluded.

The free UT3 Titan Pack update introduces new gametypes and features 16 maps in total. Among those are levels introduced in last year's belated Xbox 360 release, and PS3 owners also get the benefit of that version's split-screen support.

Damn it I was looking forward to this. Why is the PC pack held back because of the PS3 version? The games industry has gone insane.

The PC version is still getting released tomorrow on time

Who cares about the PS3 version no one hardly plays it

As usual Eurogamer gates their facts wrong

"Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, the certification process for the PS3 patch and DLC has taken much longer than we expected. As a result, we have been forced to push back the release date for the PS3 version to 3/19.

The PC patch contains updates that will improve mods cooked for PS3, so we'll be taking advantage of this extra time to work with mod authors to make sure the best mods for UT3 are cooked with the latest patch."

UT3 Titan Pack: PS3 Delayed, PC Tomorrow
Epic Games has announced the Unreal Tournament 3 Titan Pack and patch for the PlayStation 3 have been delayed until March 19th.

    Quote:
The Titan Pack and the Unreal Tournament 3 patch to version 2.0 are imminent! We'll be releasing them both tomorrow (Thursday, March 5) for PC.

Remember that you can activate your retail copy of Unreal Tournament 3 for Steam, using the CD key. (Remember to remove your old UT3 install, so there aren't any conflicts). Steam activated UT3 clients will automatically be updated with the patch and the Titan Pack tomorrow.
    Thanks, BeyondUnreal.

    Enjoy

@bluem4gic Actually I would put money on the PS3 version being more popular than the 360 one...

Full mod support along with mouse and keyboard support swayed me to buy the PS3 version rather than the 360 one (which has neither).

Oh well, at least it's still coming. I wonder if the new in-game browser will work in a similar way to the community section on UT2004 or if we will be able to browse to any site we want to download the map/mods etc...

Anyone know if the update adds trophy support for ps3?
  • the_mtfr #6 3 years ago

Still waiting for the Linux version to buy this...
  • chessboxer #7 3 years ago

    @ breedob

Yes, trophy support will be included. There will be quite a few of them to collect.

    ***edit***

Just found out that the PS3 browser will take us to http://www.UT3Mod.com which is cool. The PC Titan Pack is available to download now.

    Apparently trophies are go.

The PS3 patch IS out in Europe. I installed it this morning. Version 2.00, 112MB. Includes the Trophies (including an in game trophy progress page), the Mod Browser, Split Screen. I didn't have time to check if it included the new game modes/maps - but with that patch size it's no likely. I think they'll come via the Mod Browser. 28 mods in the Mod Browser so far. And a nice new darker menu theme with like a carbon looking background.

I have two versions of the game - US version did not update. UK version did update.

Yeah, it's out in Europe. I installed it this morning.

All the things nbnz said. I too couldn't see whether the new maps and gametypes were included. The MOD Browser does not invoke the PS3 browser to the UT3mods site, just lists their contents. The lack of a full decription for the mods is the only downpoint.

    Oh jolly good.

Come on EG, this is happening more and more.
  • knightmt #13 3 years ago

This game is awesome on PC and PS3 have not tried the 360,
cannot wait for split screen damage.
I thought it was a bit buggy on PC.

The full patch is obviously not out as it is supposed to be 1GB?

I don't agree. I have both versions (PS3 and PC) and even none of them are the most popular multiplayer fps those days the PS3 versios has much less servers, but the sme number of matches and active players. So, proportionaly, UT III in PS3 is more popular than the PC one. I'm myself a more PC player oriented, and I usually play hundreds of ours at year in BF2, Quake Wars, but as PS3 UT III supports k+m, I also play a lot of hours in this UT III console version.
  • bluem4gic #16 3 years ago

    @Buran

I also have a PC and PS3 as well as 360 and Wii. And still would not buy the PS3 one. I agree with you that UT3 is more popular on PS3 than PC but not for the reason you think.

UT3 is shit when compared to the previous iteration UT 2004. They slimmed down the modes and took out stuff that people wanted. Hence when you boot up both games. You will still see more people playing UT 2004 on PC that UT3. It seems that in order to accommodate the average console gamer. They have skimmed all the goodness off.

Hopefully this Titan Patch will regain my interest. Just as it been released just now for the PC. However when Epic decides that they want to put some decent modes back in the game. i.e Double Domination and Assualt maybe that crowd of people who are holding on to UT2004 so tightly will move to UT3. You just need to check the forums for evidence of that

For me at the moment I only use the game to create my maps and mods

I have a long relationship with the UT franchise as player in all previous installments, and I must conced that UT III was seriously nerfed in departments like HUD, number game modes, number of maps and so, but at the same time I like a lot more the improves and changes in the gunplay, with more balance between the weapons and the new feeling of the movement system, and the maps are amazing -specially Sentinel, Arsenal, Sanctuary, Vertebrae, Strident and Necropolis-.

I still think that this is the best Deathmatch fps ever made, but I think that the lack of a ranking grade system with unlocks, as COD 4 or BF 2, is hurting his popularity. Is true that UT 2004 (and Q3A) are still more popular, but on one of them come close to COD 4/WaW numbers of players. If arcade fps like Halo can implement grade rankings to keep the people playing, IMO UT III must do the same.

I'm keeping hold of UT3 thanks to its trophy patch and update, keeping it as a counterpoint to Killzone 2. So if I don't feel like ducking and covering and being tactical, I can whip this on and run about with my finger on R1.
  • chessboxer #19 3 years ago

I agree that UT2004 is vastly superior than UT3 (I too have the PS3 and PC Collector's Edition and I miss the awesome single player and Double Domination) but a UT game without custom map/mod support isn't a proper UT game. Plain and simple.
