UK charts: Ubisoft first with Conviction

Monster Hunter Tri makes decent start.

Wii game Monster Hunter Tri has debuted fifth in the UK all-formats chart.

Capcom's brilliant co-op adventure was by far the highest placed of the newcomers. Of the others, Dead to Rights: Retribution was muzzled at 22nd and Nier was far away and missed the top 40. The latter was 18th on the PS3 chart and 17th on Xbox 360.

Splinter Cell: Conviction spent a second week at the top, and may make that a third with the PC release of the game this Friday.

Ubisoft's other chart-topper, Just Dance, was second and Wii Fit Plus was fourth. Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Wii Sports Resort, Modern Warfare 2, Just Cause 2 and Pokemon SoulSilver rounded the chart out to 10.

i think its fair to say tht the gta episodes only sold on pc and ps3. anyone who wanted them on 360, like myself, has already purchased them

Interesting to see ODST back in the chart. I'm guessing that's because of the upcoming Halo: Reach beta. I think it'll continue to climb the charts in the next few weeks.

Nier deserves better than this. Its a very japanese game and the grapichs is under par but it oooozes atmosphere and the music is incredible.

Surprised MH Tri didn't do better given the huge Nintendo TV marketing campaign for it.

Monster Hunter Tri for the 360 (and PS3) would have helped the sales tremendously. Come on Capcom make it happen.
I bought the Wii version though.

I was expecting Red Steel 2 like sales for Tri here in the UK (something like 34th in the chart week 1 and then out of sight), so this makes for a pleasant surprise.

EDIT. On a side note, it should send a message to third parties about what can be done with a serious advertising campaign. Tri has been advertised on practically every major TV channel at primetime lately, whereas games like Red Steel 2 have all their advertising late night on minor satellite channels.

SCC is worth playing, sure the hardcore element is missed from the SP game, but with huge PEC challenges to beat and trying to ghost through Hunter in Deniable Ops allows you to tap into the old SC magic. Story is the best yet in any SC.

Nier may deserves better but its just too Oriential for its good, as well as being too unknown quantity for the consumers, and agree if Monster Hunter even got ported onto HD consoles, it would have done far more better. Also those HD consoles are more intergrated with online gaming than Wii is. Even without Friend codes as most HD consoles gamers would be more used to online gaming.

Good to see Tri doing well. I'm definitely going to pick it up after my exams.

I caved and got Tri on Saturday with a Wii SPeak despite my protestations that I'd only get it when it gets to a proper consoles.

Only had chance to plough 6 hours in to it and loving it in a possibly unright manner. Deidre the Monster Hunter with her ridiculously oversized Buster Sword which she can barely wield is gonna go far. OK so it's Phantasy Star Online without the magic but it's brilliant for it.

Monster Hunter Tri was on sale for 1 day!

Take an established franchise, put your best possible effort into it, advertise it properly and it sells on the Wii!

3rd parties just don't get it.

That's one day sales for Tri!? Wow, that's awesome news for Capcom, Nintendo and the wii all round!

Glad to see tri make a dent. Deserves attention. Will be interesting to see how many copies get sold back though. For all the effort made to ease new players in, the game is still tough.
