UK charts: Red Dead outguns Mario

Rockstar redeems a fifth top spot.

Red Dead Redemption has topped the UK all-formats chart for a fifth week.

That means Super Mario Galaxy 2 settling for second and 2010 FIFA World Cup for third, again.

There were new entries this week for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on PSP and International Cricket 2010. Neither made the top 10 though - Codemasters' sports game was 12th and Hideo Kojima's PSP game 18th.

Just Dance, however, was fourth, and Rooms: The Main Building fifth.

Modern Warfare 2, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Wii Fit Plus, Blur and Wii Sports Resort rounded out the top 10.

No horse pun this week, I see.
  • Dylbot #2 2 years ago

Honestly, both games would've deserved the top spot. Neither one has left its respective console since I got them.

    @Dr.Mott

Thank God, my voice was horse from laughing at them.

Really glad to see BLUR hanging on in there. Although it's hard as nails, it's a very thrilling game to play online, split screen and towards the end of the single player game! :)

RDR rocks, great game and fully deserved.
The developers of Just Dance must be billionaires by now?
Blur and SS surviving in the charts, at least.
  • Farzlepot #6 2 years ago

I was certain that RDR would have been bucked off the top by MG2 after a full week of trading. I guess I was wrong! R* must be rolling in the moolah by now.

Avatar the game is proof of why movie tie ins is still being made. They sell well no matter how crap they are.
  • Eraysor #8 2 years ago

Keep going RDR, every week Mario isn't top I'm happy!

    /readies the flameshield (again)

Also, that's the first time I've ever seen Snake beaten by cricket.

I wonder if RDR is making a profit. It seemed pretty much doomed before release, what with the ludicrous budget.
  • JimmyT67 #10 2 years ago

    This one is easy:

Number of kids & adults wanting to play RDR vs number of Adults wanting to play Mario galaxy 2

maturer kids these days are not interested in Mario galaxy simple as. If Kids are going to play any game other than sandbox games imo it'll be Fifa or some such game to play against their mates.

The one geeky kid playing Mario will likely end up being wedgied to death by any mates he has left at that stage.

RDR deserves absolutely every bit of praise it's received and is absolutely worthy of being on top this long. The "subtle" ad campaign can't have hurt either ;-)

It's a real shame to see Alan Wake's slow plummet down the charts. While I agree it's a pretty solid 7-8/10 its a decent game that deserved a bit more of a chance to hook people. MS were insane to release it right before RDR (and MG2). Remedy are constantly dropping "we'll see how things go" and "potential sequel" into their DLC press releases now...
  • spudsbuckley #12 2 years ago

Alan Wake is not getting a sequel and i'll be genuinely surprised if all of the planned DLC gets released. It was a victim of it's own hype.

    Still a great game though.

stellar multiplatform game gets stellar sales = good news for gamers.
  • Lee_Morris #14 2 years ago

Well done for Blur for climbing for the 3rd consecutive week. It really is a deep and very rewarding game. Well woth the £25 it's going for on some sites. Do yourself a favour and dive in and enjoy the sizzling neon summer.

PS I do not work PR for Acti, I am just really enamoured with the game

Poor old Mario, still can't knock Red Dead off the top spot... maybe he needs a gun? ;)
  • zedzee #16 2 years ago

Funnily enough, the DS is ahead by only one entry in the chart, versus the PSP.
  • sonicyoda #17 2 years ago

It's a disgrace that that Rooms game has charted so well. Who the hell is buying it? It's people like you that are the reason why Chrono Trigger will never get a sequel! Stop buying this complete tosh!
  • MDL199 #18 2 years ago

Well, well, well the most hyped Ninty game of the year can't knock RDR off the top spot despite it already being out for a few weeks and the Wii having such a large uk user base.

Seems even the Ninty hardcore are tiring of boring old Mario.
  • Law07 #19 2 years ago

    Has Skate 3 completely flopped?
  • TonyHarrison #20 2 years ago

I really hope the people who are saying 'poor Mario' don't ruin their enjoyment of this by looking at worldwide charts. I wouldn't want their days to be ruined...

I'm getting GTAIV completed now in a hurry so I can play RDR! I want to ride around on a horse!

    >maturer kids these days are not interested in Mario galaxy simple as.

No.. kids who are 12 years old and desperately trying to act grown up - dont like colourful games. In the exact same way as a 12 year old myself i'd only watch "mature" action movies.

i'm in my 30s, and i think galaxy 2 is a great game. I kinda enjoyed RDR for what it was - a collection of easy mini games.. But dont rate it that highly over something like Vice City (for example). If you're going to play a collection of easy minigames - may as well play carnival games or something.. But then that wouldnt be "cool" and 'grown up"

Comparing utter shite like Carnival Games with a great title like RDR is completely mental!

From your posts Smelly i'd always assumed you were about 10. I bet you still live at home with mummy haha.

RDR = on 2 formats, Mario = on 1 format. Hmmmm. I wonder which takes top spot.
  • MDL199 #26 2 years ago

The uk Wii userbase can't be too far off that of the 360 and PS3 combined plus the Wii is hardly stuffed with hot games where as there loads of cracking titles on the 2 proper consoles competing for gamers cash.
  • smelly #27 2 years ago

"Comparing utter shite like Carnival Games with a great title like RDR is completely mental!"

So are you trying to tell me that RDR isnt just a collection of easy minigames? Or is your point that if you put a "mature" story on Carnival games which makes you travel to each mini-game it'd be just as good?
  • BillyBrush #28 2 years ago

Mario Galaxy 2 is a bit special...to say the least.
  • wizbob #29 2 years ago

I'm pretty sure that SMG2 will have legs. It'll still be running, jumping and butt-stomping all over the charts a year from now.
  • Essien #30 2 years ago

I bought RDR this week for PS3. Took it back as bugs caused the game to keep on crashing. Shame as it seemed to be a really good game. Anyone else have this problem??
    Was it the 1.02 patch?
  • canIdoyabombsforya #31 2 years ago

If kids want to act grown up, they can do my washing, ironing and drive me to work in rush hour. I'll happily use the free time to play SMG2.
