UFC quitters will be punished

In a patch arriving "soon".

THQ has trumpeted the arrival of a UFC patch that will punish online match-quitters, among other things.

This is "the biggest online issue", according to producer Neven Dravinski, and any future cheaters will be awarded a Loss, a Did Not Finish flag and have winning streak set to zero. Only the disconnecting party suffers, by the way.

The patch arrives "soon" and has other numerous tweaks, including a matchmaker for gamers with stable, fast connections. Coo. It's like Christmas.

Also, max points awarded online will be increased tenfold, the level cap boosted to 200, winning streak bonus lowered to three, a CAF cheat addressed and a PS3 auto-save bug solved.

There are some other minor tweaks besides. Look out for a full list when the patch arrives.

How will this effect people who get a genuine disconnection in the middle of a match?

the same way it will affect a cheater i'd assume. but in all fairness, in 3 years of xbox live online play i've never seen a "legitimate" disconnect

To be honest it's just tough luck and that's the way it should be IMO. We all get disconnects from time to time but it should never be a frequent occurence - if so there's something wrong with your connection and it's debatable whether you should be playing online in the first place.

They need to do someting similar for SFIV, and all LIVE enabled games for that matter.

"in 3 years of xbox live online play i've never seen a "legitimate" disconnect "

My girlfriend has turned off the wireless router by accident when i was playing online before she goes to bed. Not in this game though. I hate quitters.
I remember this problem in SF2THF when it was first out on Xbla.

Surprised this wasn't in from the start. Its the most common issue in any game of this type.

I had a powercut on the 1st night of playing SSFIITHDR. I was gutted.

Anyway - it's pretty surprising that 'quit cheating' still isn't being catered for BEFORE these games are released. It's 2009 for god's sake. Anyone would think that online gaming had only just been invented...

They should be punished by receiving a PUNCH to the FACE
  • Quak #12 3 years ago

Shouldn't they put such features into games as a matter of course? Has there been a single game where people don't quit when they start to lose?

They should take it for granted that they need to put these measures in place. Come on guys, it's not 2001 any more.
  • kinky_mong #13 3 years ago

I think they should be punished by having to grapple with a sweaty man in real life.
  • doddsymon #14 3 years ago

Wish valve would introduce this for l4d versus.
  • johnbannor #15 3 years ago

It sounds like if it only affects the quitter, and you don't get a win for a disconnect, people could still quit after you win just to spite you. They've lost either way, so I'm sure some people aren't adverse to fucking you over.
  • NinjaWilliams #16 3 years ago

Add a 'name and shame' leaderboard for the most frequent quitters!

They should do this for more games.

The amount of ppl who quite on games when they realise they can't win is unreal.

Hopefully this will be out by the end of next week.

For those wondering about the UK broadcast of UFC 100 - well if you're a SKY customer you're in luck as it's on channel 433 from 9pm til 6am (including the countdown show). However if you're a Virgin customer like me you're screwed and you'll have to watch it on a stream at UFC.com... assuming of course you have a decent internet connection and that the site doesn't get so busy it crashes and burns. Personally I hope it's not ONLY live that you can watch it online as I don't want to watch it live (I have enough problems with my sleeping pattern as it is).

The biggest UFC event ever and they accept an offer from SKY over any other broadcaster available to everyone in the UK. Brilliant.

    @johnbannor

The article said the penalty would be more wide ranging than just the individual bout. Wiping winning streaks was one such extra penalty.

I wish all you ufc fans would just come out of the closet.

.. then we wont have to constantly hear about this "sport"
  • XdarXideX #21 3 years ago

    @countfapula

They would need to change the gold medal for a one punch knock out... though thinking about it that would be better. I don't see why anyone should be rewarded for getting a lucky ko!
  • TuftyMcTavish #22 3 years ago

Why do these things always appear as fixes after the fact? It seems to me that this sort of thing should be an obvious feature to include in a game from the very beginning, yet time and time again the quitters don't get punished.
  • BeerBread #23 3 years ago

Does this mean BJ Penn is out of the UFC? LOL

Because he quit to GSP's gameness
