Ubisoft unveils Settlers 7 for spring
Build in idyllic Renaissance Europe.
Ubisoft and developer Blue Byte have whipped the wrappers off of The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom, which takes places in Renaissance Europe and should be out for PC next spring.
Campaigns have three win conditions - military, science and trade - and fine-tuning a kingdom can go right down to a village by village, sector by sector level, apparently.
Online multiplayer and associated leaderboards lend a competitive edge, and there's a promise of user-generated and downloadable content to follow the game's release.
Blue Byte has created a new graphics engine for Settlers 7 and reworked the AI, too. Head to The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom gallery to see the eye-pleasing changes for yourself.

They broke Settlers after the 2nd one in my opinion - and I think they knew that.
If you haven't played Settlers II 10th Anniversary Edition give the demo a spin, it's fucking ACE - hard to find in the shops but well worth a look.

Settlers 2 was the best that I've played IMO, missed a couple but played the last two and was disappointed.
I'd recommend the latest Anno too, great fun, relaxed although sometimes bad men come and burn down your peaceful settlements. So's I gone has cries! ;(

Anno 1404 is great though.

S2 was good, and like many I got disinterested after that. the newest Anno really hit all the right spots for me. stone cold classic & best game of the type since S1.

Still looks pretty now, in an isometric, hand-drawn sprite kind of way.

The thing that makes me most nervous about this is the existence of guns. I'm not sure how it will change the feel of the game. Historically, the development of the cannon marked the end of the castle. I like castles

I'd give anything to see the first game released on Xbox Live Arcade!

Edit: Yes a console port would be great. And actually the way of playing would even work great with a standard controller.
