Ubisoft details Assassin's Creed II DLC
Price and contents laid out.
Ubisoft has detailed the upcoming Assassin's Creed II downloadable content packs it announced just recently.
The first, the Battle of Forli, is due out in January for $3.99 and features six new memories. It focuses on Ezio's work to protect the town of Forli from the invading Orsi family, and fleshes out Caterina Sforza, who you encountered briefly in the main game just before you went off to Florence.
The second pack, the Bonfire of the Vanities, is due out for $4.99 in February, and unlocks a new area of Florence. Ezio has to liberate the city from Savonarola, who has taken it over thanks to an Apple of Eden.
Apparently there's a new move in the latter pack - the spring jump - while video of the first add-on suggests that you get to fly around in Leonardo's whopping bat gizmo again, in between hauling people into hay bales and so forth.
Both add-ons will correspond to the missing "Sequence" numbers in the Assassin's Creed II Animus timeline.
If you haven't played Assassin's Creed II itself yet, you really should. Check out our Assassin's Creed II review to find out why. It's not too late to vote for it in our Eurogamer Readers' Top 50 either.
In the meantime, here's a video of the game's creative director Patrice Desilets explaining how it all works. We want that top.

Not played the main game yet but I've been told that I'm getting it for Christmas so not too long to wait, whether or not I'll bother with this DLC, which looks like it could in fact be levels cut from the main game prior to release, will depend on what I think of the game and whether or not it leaves me wanting more.

/Hopes
Either way, I *loved* AC2 so I'll be getting these.

I believe we get it sometime in March sadly, but hopefully we will get a directors cut that will include this DLC.

I hope you are right about getting the DLC included, kind of a reward for having to wait so long. I have been tempted to pick it up for the 360 but must resist.
Does anyone know why we PC users are having to wait? Are they adding DX11 support to it or something, like Dirt 2?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
The delay might be DX11 but probably piracy. A lot of the devs/pubs actually hold the PC back now to "protect the console sales". Not sure Ubisofts reasoning but that is probably the case with them as well.

You will be buried in playing it till well after boxing day, mark my words
Price of this DLC doesn't seem too bad. Depends on the gameplay hours included I guess. I'll probaly get it, but not straight away. I've plenty to be getting on with before I need to expand the experience.

Thanks for that. I just hope they do a good job of bringing it to the PC and not do a half baked job, and while i don't yet have a DX11 card, by impementing it into the game would be great for when i get round to upgrading my current GTX275

Is the price stated in the article really representative of the price we will get over here? Also, are we getting the DLC in January as well or are we likely to have to wait?

I love reading this same tired shit over and over and over.

Don't worry it will be well worth the wait if AC1: DC is anything to go by, Ubi are pretty good on PC. Probably will need a beast to run it though, anyone know the specs yet?

Unlocks? Then its not really a DLC then is it? More like a ULC.

I found the first game got dull very quickly but I find myself looking forward to the sequel because of all the praise it has been getting on the consoles.

You dare mock the invented words of William Shakespeare? Avaunt out of here.

AC is a divider of peoples, so its good news that you liked the first one, as it means you will love AC2.
Tbh, I wouldn't worry about DLC right now. The main game itself has easily 30+ hours of gameplay if you get into doing all the little optional missions and tasks.

That said, $4 would typically equate to £4, no? Which is about 560 MSP apiece... I can hope.

I love listening to your pissant soldiers talk tough. It makes me laugh.

If Matrix was here, he'd laugh to.

Otherwise, bring it on!

Seriously have you even played the game? Ive clocked up over 30 hours playing it. So work that out at a cost per hour... its very cheap, as for the DLC, doesnt sound expensive either. So if you like the game and want to play more, then buy the DLC, if you dont, then its easy... dont. But to complain about a game that contains quite alot of game time is pretty stupid. Its not like the game was 8 hours long like most games.
Anyway, I for one cannot wait to get the DLC to continue my adventures

"I love reading this same tired shit over and over and over. "
As much as the original sentiment is poorly expressed, I'm glad someone is still questioning slot-in paid-for DLC to fill in the blanks left in the retail game deliberately so content can be sold after release. And anyone who thinks this content wasn't developed alongside the retail release is being naive.

My soldiers? Talking tough? What on earth are you on about?
I suspect that many random things make you laugh, or giggle madly to yourself at the very least.
@ccfb
I don't doubt for a second that this DLC was developed alongside the main release. I just don't give a shit.
As makeamazing points out, there are 30+ in AC2 easily. As games go, its great value.
It doesn't matter what was developed when and by who, all that matters is whether the game you bought was worth the money you paid for it. If you think it was, then everyone is (or should be) happy.
Feeling hard done by after the fact, when you were previously quite happy with your purchase, is simply a childish emotional reaction. It is fantasy, life doesn't work that way.

I was merely saying I'm happy some people still question the policy decisions of these publisher/developers, and continue to realise some content is being withheld at release.
The value judgement is always going to be down to the punter.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Exactly. Exactly. Exactly.
"I was merely saying I'm happy some people still question the policy decisions of these publisher/developers"
I question policy too, by buying or not buying, as you do yourself. As you say, if the DLC is not good value I shan't buy it. My point is that the DLC in no way changes the value of the game I have already bought, just by existing.
I made my value judgement on the day I bought AC2. This apparent bizarre logic that states the value of my purchase is or is not affected, not only by the EXISTENCE of DLC, but also by WHEN said DLC was made, it utterly imaginary to me.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I wasn't saying that. I feel you're arguing with yourself
Also, to expand on my value judgement comment, a lot of people will include their perception of when the content was developed as part of that judgement. It seems to me a little unfair to call that childish.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
This is possible, I'm spinning a lot of plates here
And I concede childish was harsh. Sorry people.
