THQ quiet on Frontlines PS3

Won't say whether it's cancelled.

THQ has declined to confirm or deny rumours the PlayStation 3 version of Frontlines: Fuel of War has been canned.

The rumour began via that ever-reliable fountain of truth, the Xbox.com forum.

The flames were fanned by an administrator posting on the Kaos Studios boards. "Please do not overeact to rumors or, like with release dates, take what retailers say as truth," he advised.

However, the admin didn't go so far as to deny the rumour, stating, "The timing of this was unfortunate as it was the weekend but there will be actual info shortly."

Another poster claiming to be from Kaos sought to offer reassurance Frontlines is still in development for at least one console. "Don't fret," he wrote. "The Xbox 360 version is great!" Great.

We went to publisher THQ for clarification - but went home disappointed. "THQ does not comment on rumour and speculation," a spokesperson said.

Frontlines: Fuel of War is due to arrive on PC, Xbox 360 and possibly even PS3 on February 29th. There's already a demo on Xbox Live and you'll find all manner of screens, videos and typing about it over on the gamepage.

Can't say i'm bothered. Too much other good stuff coming out this year on all systems.

Single player demo on the 360 was slightly dissapointing, but i've still high hopes for this being my new battlefield modern combat, some of the weapons and ideas in the game look really intresting.....and some of the newer gameplay videos being released seem to look much better than the demo too!

Yeah the demo wasn't great, but the team behind it are decent and I'd imagine multiplayer could be good.

How is having less choice 'lucky'? And it's not like 360 owners have to buy a play this, is it?

Looks so utterly generic I doubt I'd care if it was cancelled altogether.

The demo was pretty poor, controls were slow and the graphics pretty unspectacular. PS3 won't be missing anything if it does get canned.

How can the publisher not comment on the question "are you developing a version of the PS3?"

How is that rumour and speculation?

THQ is a developer of videogames. Frontlines PS3 is currently in development - it says so on their website. So any non-response to that question can ONLY really mean 'no'.

Perhaps they lost the code down the side of the desk or something.

The fact is PS3 third party games are not selling well, and it's not making the publishers the big bucks like the 360 versions are.

Don't talk b*ll*cks. Games are green lit based on expected market, so to begin the development they would have been satisfied with the potential sales (and the market is only growing for all the consoles). Certainly not going to pull it for anything less than massive technical problems this close to release (and based on some of the shonky PS3 versions some folks have let loose on us, those would have to be *really* massive problems indeed to see the investment wasted.

Pity if true, but it's not like we're going short of FPSs and shooters this year, so no real pain if it's canned.

The demo was mediocre at best on the 360 anyway IMO so I don't think it'll be a big loss for PS3 owners personally if they don't get the game.

"Oh look, here's yet another generic SF/military-based FPS; the Xbox 360 especially is desperately short of those, right?".

    LOL

I think the game itself has a lot of potential and if you look into it then multiplayer wise I think it has a lot to offer. However the single player demo showed that the game engine and controls are not really up to the ambition and I don't think it will be such a loss. My hopes now rest on Battlefield Bad Company.
