Sony shows PSPgo converter cable thing

Use PSP accessories, look a bit daft.

Sony has announced a Converter Cable Adaptor for PSPgo that allows existing PSP peripherals, like the 1Seg Tuner and GPS Receiver, to be used.

Despite the Cable title, however, this piece of kit has a plastic frame that clips around the PSPgo and turns the shape from compact to clunky. The pictures mention that the design is a prototype, and subject to change. Quick, complain.

There's no word on price nor date yet, but we expect those to be clarified soon.

Saw the word converter in the title and got hopeful for a minute. Wish it was a method to convert your umd's!

Are you sure this isn't a picture of the PSPGo steering wheel add-on?

    /Stifles giggles.

That is great in such a bad way.

And yeah, where's the UMD conversion thingy?

Lol UMD conversion isn't going to happen you may get lucky and they offer the games for download on PSN that's it.

When the PSP go was first announced I was initially disappointed with it apparent lack of features and ridiculous price and yet despite all that I still really wanted one.

Now with one week to go before launch I'm torn between getting one or upgrading my slightly shaky (but much loved) Japanese launch PSP 1000 for a 3000 model.

Then Sony come out with this laughable "solution" to a drawing board mistake. If there's a clearer way to demonstrate that you didn't really think things through when designing your product then I don't know what it is.

Maybe I'll wait until Christmas and the inevitable seasonal deals, but right now it's looking like no sale.

Oh dear; looks like one of those tacky Wii plastic add-ons.

    :s

The new PSPgo is going to bomb so hard at retail its untrue.
Until the price drops by about £100-£150 no one is going to be interested.

@FladgeMangle - Well I pre-ordered a while back from tesco for £199.99. Thing is they have already taken the money. The reason I'm actually upgrading is due to the actual size and how it is more portable than a PSP 1000. The fact that the pricing on psn hasn't been sorted and no umd conversion forthcoming I am slightly regretting my decision.

Holy crap, that IS quite horrible.

    Looks great!

I was going to upgrade for something more portable, but I got a new mp3 player instead and thats not a problem now.
3000 sounds good but there are these rumblings of a potential 4000.

So much for me getting a PSPgo then.
  • FladgeMangle #13 3 years ago

    @breedob

You and Sony both I think ;-)
  • Olemak #14 3 years ago

Did any of you guys stop to think that maybe the PSPgo isn't aimed at people who already own a PSP?
And who would like to buy a PSPgo, but only to play old games?

Granted, Sony could get better at BC, but they're clearly targeting new customers with this device. It's not as if anyone will be forced to get upgrade. The old games will still work on the old PSP, remember.

Looks like that weird frisbee weapon from Predator.

    Olemark

"The old games will still work on the old PSP, remember."

So I take it you think people should buy 2 PSP's - and not only not complain but actually be happy about it?
  • rprince #17 3 years ago

@BadBoyBonner: no, they should keep their existing PSP - and not only not complain but actually be happy about it?

You can just get a 16GB Pro Duo for your old PSP, download games from PSN and have the best of both worlds! So in fact having an old PSP is better than getting a Go!

That reminds me of my old Nokia NGage!

    @Olemak

This tread is ostensibly about the "frisbee of shame" device that allows PSP go owners to use PSP peripherals, because somehow the idea of putting the new, non-standard USB port under your right palm got past the planning stage.

As for BC, there is in all probability going to be a whole lot of PSP games that are still only available on UMD, unless Sony launch the entire back catalogue as digital downloads. What if one of these new customers wanted to play one of those games?
  • Moz #21 3 years ago

How many people actually use any of those accessories anyway??

Also it looks like it stops you opening the PSP which would be a problem!!

Will get a PSPGo at some point though they need to finish Crisis Core first as long given up on them releasing it on PSN.
