Several new SingStar games revealed

Plus option to play PS2 songs on PS3.

Sony has announced SingStar Volume 3 for PS3, SingStar Disney and SingStar Queen for PS2, and downloadable SingStar PS3 song packs during its Games Convention press conference.

Sony Europe boss David Reeves also revealed that you will soon be able to play SingStar PS2 tracks on PS3 thanks to an upcoming firmware update. Does that mean we'll get our money back if we bought them again on PSN?

Well anyway, artists on the Volume 3 disc include Barry Manilow, Michael Jackson, The Black-Eyed Peas and Katrina and the Waves.

SingStar Disney, meanwhile, is a PS2 compilation including songs from The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid, and will be released in the autumn.

As for the song packs, the first two will each feature five songs from Queen, and they will cost EUR 6.99 and be released in September. There is also a SingStar Queen release for PS2 planned.

SingStar already has a thriving downloadable content business thanks to SingStore, of course, and Reeves reported that over 2.2 million songs have been downloaded.

How about they put the 30 songs from Volume 3 onto the Singstore? I thought that was the whole point, rather than disk swap. Or are Sony being greedy and want to guarantee you spend £20 rather than say £4 for the songs you actually want

I'd rather they give you an option ala Rock Band 2, where you can copy any tracks from a PS2 Singstar to your hard drive and run them through the PS3 games. Maybe that will be what this firmware update will let you do.

Will get the Queen packs, though hopefully it will be different songs to the 5 that are already up for download.

Those songs do also end up on the SingStore typically. It's for the non PSN folks (yes they still exist)

To the best of my knowledge, not one song from Vol 2 has been put on the store yet, and only about 5 or 6 from Vol 1 have been added for those that started with 2.

That sounds very much like you'll be able to put PS2 titles onto your harddrive. This was probably the most requested feature from this gen's SingStar, so I'm very pleased to hear that's happening.

More surprising is that they aren't matching 360's Lips' promise of 'sing along with any song'. I can see how that will technically be done, and if SingStore doesn't step up a gear very quickly it's going to be left in the dust.

Nevermind that. How about making it compatible with standard headsets?

OK, so.. How to solve a problem, then unsolve it at the same time....

    - Set up online framework, so users can have a large custom song library without having to repeatedly change disks...
    - Release Disks anyway
    - Don't make the songs on the disks available for download

    Yay for clever people!

Didn't Sony say about a month ago that the next SingStar was going to "revolutionise" karaoke games? What happened?
