SAW director doing Castlevania film

He'll be helping out with the script too.

The co-creator of the SAW series, James Wan, has signed up to direct a film based on the Castlevania games.

"I'm very fresh on this project, so its early stages and I'm still trying to work things out, but the producers love my vision for it," he told Bloody Disgusting.

"I'll be working on the script with a writer to give it a new spin, different to the previous versions. This will have my stamp on it which Konami is very excited about."

Wan said he likes the way Castlevania combines the myth of Dracular with influences from Japanese pop cultures. "That’s the East-meets-West tone I want to visually expand on for the film. I'm thrilled by the opportunity to make a highly stylised, fantasy, action film that focuses on the gothic storyline and the cool, anime-like characters," he explained.

"For once, the human hero is as sexy and dangerous as the vampire villain, and his weapon of choice was what attracted me to the project in the first place - the Vampire Killer Whip."

There's no word on a release date just yet.

Uh oh. So I guess instead of gothic horror we'll have more torture porn.

Good seeing as the series is ment to be dark and gritty (although it as gone off course a few times) at least we get a good director on it. I'm just hoping it doesn't end up being another Bloodryne/Blade/VH 'vamp film', those were overly cheesey by the end of things.. TBH I'd perfer a more Interview with a Vampire/Queen of the Damned meets Underworld 1/3, a bit of good action but a deep story to tie things together as well

Added in: I would say somthing about SAW, most of the time it's in debate what ppl goto see SAW for but behind all the gore/etc it's actally a pritty complex story about Jigsaw and everyone tied to him, it's just that it's 1) spred over the films and you have to what them all in one sitting sometimes and 2) the gore overshadows the plot a lot... That said at least theres some reason behind it all plot wise and isn't just 'because' and about the body count most are about.

Well at least Anderson is not involved anymore. And at least the protagonist is gonna use a whip.
However, I don't like the idea of "putting a new spin" on it. Just stick to the program.

My hopes sank after i read the words, 'cool', 'sexy' and 'anime'.
Why can't he just make a really good Dracula movie cos i can't remember the last time i saw one (get it, saw one??), Who's he gonna cast as Dracula??? Zach fucking Morris??

So Paul WS Anderson isn't working on this now?

FANTASTIC! Absolutely fantastic. I don't really care about Castlevania, or movies based on games in general, but anything that stops this man getting work is TREMENDOUS news for games, films and the human race.
