Reach beta more popular than Halo 3's

Test extended by a day, ends tomorrow.

Halo: Reach's beta test has been more popular than Halo 3's, with more players logging in on day one than for the entirety of the Halo 3 beta.

That's according to Machinima (via Destructoid), which quotes the official Bungie stats in its latest video.

The first week of play on the Reach beta saw 14 million games played - over 29 years of game time - and 157 million kills.

The Halo: Reach beta test ends tomorrow - a day later than originally planned. "Our official plans as of now are to turn off the Reach beta on Thursday, 5/20 at 10AM PDT," Bungie's Brian Jarrard told Joystiq. That will be 6pm here in the UK.

Halo: Reach is due out this autumn, exclusively for Xbox 360.

I haven't played this in ages, might try to pop on again before it finishes.

    It is very good.

Ends tomorrow?? Shit! I knew there was something I was meant to be doing.

Even though its had more players its still totally inferior to Halo 3.

    @ClimHazzard

    +1

I completely disagree. I think Halo Reach MP is far better than Halo 3's. However I don't think you should be negged for an innocuous opinion. I feel the Karma system is abused at times.

It's just a pity that it's almost EXACTLY the same as Halo 3, save for a couple of poorly-implemented team based modes and the really unimpressive jetpacks. Oh, and the needler rifle is alright, I suppose.

I disliked it, maybe because I'm not very good - but the amount of lead it took to take someone down was just ridiculous. As I said, maybe I'm doing something seriously wrong, but I just didnt like it. and the grenades were way overpowered.

I was turned off at first, didnt think it was much change from H3, but alot of game hours later i am hooked like i never was with H3 mp..... Reach (atleast the MP part) looks to be game of the year without doubt! GJ bungie!

Why is this surprising to anyone? There are far more Xbox 360s around now than there were when Halo 3's beta came out, and to get in you had to buy Crackdown, while this one was with a Halo game. There is a bigger audience, and those who aren't die-hard Halo fans are more likely to have it.

    First impressions of Reach....
    Sluggish movement
Too tough to actually kill someone
    Squiffy grenades
Didn't like Sword Base map design

    150 games of Reach later....
Slick implementation of each of the four loadouts
Loadouts offer extra variety and far more choice for the player and how games are played by teams
    Movement not a problem
Loving the new weapons (once I read up on how they work etc.)
Loving the new shield system (again, you need to read the details of how the shield is different to Halo 3 to appreciate it)
    Loving the healthpack format
Can appreciate map design much more when taking into accounts loadouts and different gametypes
Squiffy grenades that I just can't quite get used to

I have properly got hooked and think this is the best Halo MP yet! Loving it! :)

Have had more hours of fun and solid gameplay on this beta then I have on a number of 'AAA' full retail games. Admittedly playing with a regular bunch of EG mates really helped this stand out too. But I've joined my 'sad lonely sesher' moments and using the 'team player, chatty, winning and polite' social settings actually met some very decent randoms too.

Mixed feelings that the beta is ending. On the one hand it's been fantastic. On the other hand it's been maybe a little too fantastic so it'll be nice to get my life back and my wife will remember who I am again.

Day 1 purchase for me for certain. Just hope I can exercise some self-control...or the missus will be up in arms :)

For me, autumn can't get here quick enough. The ridiculously high quality of the beta has hinted at so much promise for the final retail release that it's going to feel like a looooooong wait till I can finally get my hands on it.

Cheers Bungie, you did it again.

I think this probably has more to do with the popularity of Halo:oDST vs the popularity of Crackdown (copies of the game in circulation I mean) than Microsoft/Bungie are letting on.

edit : Damn, beaten to it by Alphathon. That will teach me to read all the comments first before posting.
