PS3 outselling Xbox 360 in Europe

But Wii is beating both, as always.

Nintendo has released figures for 2008 hardware sales in Europe which reveal the PS3 is outselling the Xbox 360 - though the Wii is still laughing in both of their faces.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, more than 10.4 million Wii consoles have been shifted in Europe this year. The high point for Nintendo was April, when nearly 180,000 units were sold. The figure for Xbox 360 during the same month was around 90,000, as it was for PS3.

Overall, PS3 sales are said to exceed those for Xbox 360. However, Microsoft's console proved more popular than its rival during October, when a price cut boosted sales to more than 60,000 units.

The DS has beaten the PSP over the course of the year. In July Nintendo shifted 225,000 handhelds, while the PSP reached a peak of 50,000 units during the same period.

Wait, is this article solely build around the wii annual sales release and spiced up for flamewars by mentioning the ps3 and 360 with just a selective month here and there?

    New all time low?

    Zombielol - the new PS3lol?

"more than 10.4 million Wii consoles have been shifted to 2nd hand stores in Europe this year"

    Fixed!

/ sniggers, then runs off giggling :)
  • Zomoniac #4 3 years ago

Well that doesn't add up. If the Wii's high point had been 180,000 consoles in a month, the most they could possibly have sold in a year is less than 2.16m, not 10.4m.

Just roll on reports of stock shortages so I can get mine on eBay and rinse the Xmas punters

Like i said, this 'article' is dripping with manipulated info, just right for a flame war and massive pagehits.

lets see how far we can get down the page before this turns into a nightmare?

How about a competition about which favourite cliche appears first?

I'm going for "bluray trojan" for the PS3, and "noisebox" for the 360 while everyone ignores the Wii.

And they say you need games to be successful pfft.
  • muscleblade #9 3 years ago

And they say you need to have the best console too be successfull pfft.

Many consumers isnt very informed. Good thing Eurogamer give us face off comparisons making the choice easier for informed gamers at least.

"Overall, PS3 sales are said to exceed those for Xbox 360."

"Are said to"? What the fuck sort of weak-arsed shit is this? WORST. STORY. EVER.
  • Widge #11 3 years ago

Oh I bagsy "Wii is not next gen"!
  • Rev.StuartCampbell #12 3 years ago

Boosted to 60,000? From what? From 10,000 or from 59,000? And whichever it was, why was it so much lower than April's 90,000?

Is there a single sentence of this story which isn't utterly meaningless drivel?
  • Crovax20 #13 3 years ago

I think the article is a bit manipulative indeed

I think what its meant to say is that 10.4 million consoles have been sold since Wii launch. So this year it has reached 10.4 million consoles in Europe. Selling 10.4 million consoles in a year would be rediculous. So yeah the newsarticle could have been written more clearly

'most of the 360 sales are people buying new ones because of RROD'

There's better info in this article (see graph near bottom):

The Xbox "boost" was from just under 30,000.

And why are Nintendo "releasing" Sony and Microsoft's sales figures anyway?
  • BigE0n #18 3 years ago

I must admit it drives me nuts when manufacturers release sales figure and try and include competitors too!

Its hard enough believing the figure may not have had a bit of a massage for the manufacturer let alone the competitors figures....

The only figures to trust are those of independent retailers.... (of course unlike the other markets of the USA and ASIA we dont have a way of accounting for these on a weekly or even monthly basis!)

Still competition makes manufacturers and retailers try harder which is always good for us consumers :-)

It's awesome that even at three times the price the PS3 is still outselling the X360.

    Go Sony ;)

Nintendo are doing it because the rest don't want to and they can. All three companies have these figures.

Certainly from Microsoft's PR/Sony's disastrous PR I got the impression that the XBox was doing better than the PS3 in Europe when this wasn't the case at all.

Could someone please put me through to the 'bothered' department. I could not give a monkey's minge.

Can anyone reccomend a better website than this to hang out on. Games related by the way.

    I've really had enough now.

"most of the 360 sales are people buying new ones because of RROD"

Thats how much people with a 360 loves their console. You do get a new one if you get RROD but who can wait 3 weeks? I couldnt now i have 2.

  • moggsy #26 3 years ago

I'm doing my bit to reduce the Wii's sales figures. I've leant mine to my ma & pa as they'd taken an interest in buying one after seeing the adverts with the Rednapp family playing on it.

I reckon they'll be bored of it within a week hence one less sale for Ninty ;-)

So yes i have other things to do. I just love my 360 thats all. Its so much fun.

    RROD, pay for online play...LOL!!
  • g@area404.org #31 3 years ago

    Not really suprising news.

X360 was released November 2005, thats 3 years ago.
PS3 was released (in UK) in March 2007. Thats 16 months later.

Lots of 360's were sold in 16 months and I suspect, a large percentage of PS3's were bought by people who already owned the 360.
  • layleeloo #32 3 years ago

WHO CARES what system sell more. Its utterly irrelevant and a load of bollocks.
  • BonzoBanana #33 3 years ago

I must admit I'm on my fourth 360 and I'm told they are very difficult if not impossible to repair depending on fault so do I account for four console sales or just one? I wonder what the real figure is with regard non functioning 360 consoles. Is it something like 10% of 360s sold or much more. The fact Microsoft won't release this figure makes me think its very high.

Systems your link explains it better... so this is Nintendo's spin on information we already had?(with some estimations thrown in)

Why do Nintendo get away with this kind of thing and MS and Sony get blasted for it?

Ah well very suspect motivations for this IMO, Nintendo will jump sides to make either one of the competition look bad when it suits then... if it means more investment especially. It'd be nice if EG treated Nintendo the same as they would MS or Sony on things like this.
