Phoenix Wright back this year News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

16 April, 2007

The evidence has been pointing to it for a while, but Capcom has officially confirmed that it plans to release Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations on Nintendo DS.

Due out in the US this September, Trials and Tribulations is based on the Game Boy Advance game released in Japan several years ago, and sees Phoenix teaming up yet again with Maya Fey and her famously dead sister Mia in an adventure that mixes investigation and courtroom intrigue with fancy haircuts and shouting.

This time you get to play as Phoenix and Maya as they take on a new prosecutor called Godot, who used to have it off with Mia and also used to be in a coma. Yeah, but what's he done lately?

All good stuff, then, but be careful not to confuse Trials and Tribulations with the fourth Ace Attorney game, released in Japan last week. That game, unlike its Japanese DS predecessors, does not offer a built-in English translation, sparking outrage amongst Eurogamers everywhere (mainly John).

Hopefully we'll get to see them both in the end, but in the meantime, Trials and Tribulations will do. For more on Phoenix Wright, be sure to have a poke around our original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney review and of course our Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice For All review. Both games are out now.

Ace!

(sorry, couldn't resist)

I loved the title we actually received over here (Australia), so it is actually ace news. Okay, I'm going now...

I hope so too. Justice for all is a nice game but the music was much, much better in the first one.

Almost finished Ace Attorney - it's lasted SO long! Amazing value for money! Then I might have time to pick up Justice for All before this new one comes out!

The music in the third one is pretty decent in it's GBA incarnation, definitely an improvement over part 2.

I've said it in the forum, with this released in September, I bet we won't see the new one which has just been reeased in Japan before 2008. :-/

Also, Capcom are apparently doing a Phoenix-a-like for the PS2 (acording to IGN, anyhoo), via Harvey Birdman. The HB cartoon is ace, and if they are OK to rip off their own Phoenix gameplay with Harvey's adult humour and flagrant abuse of old Hanna Barbara characters as criminals, it could be a winner.

Or it could go the way of Family Guy... sigh...

Harvey Birdman YES!
If Capcom make a balls of that, I'll never forgive them.

Objection! All the evidence points that Phoenix Wright 3 should be released now, with an option to buy PW4 with it!

Why is everyone always moaning about PW2's music? I thought it was great. PW3's music is great also, imo, so fear not. It's really soulful... not like soul music, mind :p

I'll definitely get this one to complete the series even though it probably won't have a lot of DS-specific action going on, considering that it'll come out in a few months. I'm *really* aching for part 4, because the DS-specific chapter in PW1 was much more interesting than the more static GBA chapters preceding it. They were good, yes, but 3D evidence and scenes to toy around with is just so much better.

Great, was just wondering when the third game was gonna make it to western shores. Though I fear it will be even more tedious than the second installment, which after the really good first case got pretty boring. Until the end that is, that was fantastic and one of few games which actually made me feel something.

Definite buy anyway.
