Pay what you want for World of Goo News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

14 October, 2009

World of Goo developer 2D Boy is celebrating the game's first birthday by offering it for a reduced price.

In fact he's offering it for whatever price you want to pay, even if that means a single copper penny. The game normally costs $20, but you can pick your price until 19th October by visiting the 2D Boy website.

The deal covers the Windows, Mac and Linux versions of World of Goo. It's also available on WiiWare and in development for the iPhone.

Our reviewer liked World of Goo so much he awarded it 9/10. Read the full article to find out why it's worth more than 1p.

Brilliant game and a nice way to celebrate it's anniversary by 2dboy. Picked it up for the Linux version, had the Steam one previously.

Well I guess Radiohead did something similar with "in Rainbows".

Bare in mind, the 100,000 box set sales are £40 a pop. Good sums all round

Smart move. Didn't Radiohead do it on an album a while back?

I paid full price for it, and I'd probably pay that amount given the choice of what to pay.

Very enjoyable game, I gave them 5 bucks for it. Tempted for a moment to put in the minimum but my conscience got the better of me - damn con science.

Not quite as daring as Radiohead who did this on the album's release, but a nice, friendly idea all the same.

No use to me as I bought it on day two, but today is a good day for evangelising.

I thought this game received a 10/10. But then, that probably was what it should've received.

Ah yes, good old self-sacrificing Radiohead pioneered this idea as we're being reminded, but not before they'd hoarded squillions for themselves.

I bought this on day 1 of the Linux release, no regrets.

Has Bridge Builder even been mentioned once by game reviewers as the general inspiration for the game mechanics? In game there is a level-tribute to BB. Good stuff.

Was amazing value when I bought it for a tenner last year. Hopefully this will get a load of sales, and those 90% of people that pirated it will put in what they think it was worth.

I was just about to buy it for a penny when I realised that I couldn't do that and I won't pay more so its still unbought.

I paid $11 and got the Mac version. Was tempted to get the PC version for €5 a while ago during a sale on Steam but this is way better value for money! :)

Fantastic game. I already have the Wii version, so there was really no point getting this on PC as well, however due to the birthday sale I decided to make a small donation and download the PC version :)
