PAIN to get Blu-ray release next week News

PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

17 June, 2009

PlayStation Network title PAIN is to get a release on Blu-ray disc next week.

That's according to the EU PlayStation blog, which reports it'll cost GBP 19.99 / EUR 24.99.

All environments will be included, along with "crazy game modes" such as Spank the Monkey and Mime Toss. Plus the PAIN labs will let you access developer-created, beta-style levels on a weekly basis.

PAIN will be released in the UK on Friday 26 June, while the rest of Europe will get it early doors on the 24th.

With all the DLC, that's not a bad deal. Nice that offline users have access to a nice game, with it's man-flinging goodness.

PAIN is a really great game, but not all of the add-on content is strong enough to warrant a purchase imo. The abusement park add-on is good, but the film studio location is a bit weak.

Not sure what all the extras add up to, but if the cost of them all minus the film studio is less than £20, I would suggest people download it off PSN rather than buy this disc.

The article says all of the environments are included, but it suggests the extra characters are excluded. Extra characters aren't of much value anyway, but its worth factoring in when comparing costs.

Yeah, good to see this get a chance to reach a wider audience. It would be a crime though if The Hoff wasn't on the disc...

The Hoff isn't included with this version. Which is indeed a crime.

PS3 disc games = arid desert.
Solution = release a DLC game on disc to keep the revolt down.

Hoffless? That's a real shame. Not that the extra characters add much, but I'd have hoped they'd stick everything in.

I'm glad they're doing this. It's one of those games that's funny in the extreme, not to mention that the audio has me laughing all of the time.

Don't care about Pain, but a Wipeout HD Fury release on BD at this price would be good, please.

You're right - I am ignorant. Ignorant of any desperate attempt by Sony these days.

Some people though seem to still be roped in...

LOL @ zedzee.

You're not in league by Farticus and Fapula are you?!

I'm sure you're also pissed off with Microsoft and Valve for releasing special edition versions of Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead respectively. It's pathetic how they're trying to mask the console's lack of disc games using this tactic.

Well for 20 quid you can't go wrong Pain! is a great fun game. I'm with kangarootoo on the DLC though. The amusement park was great but the studio was rubbish and I lost interest after that.

The fact it's coming out on disc makes me think this will soon be very cheap and I can trade a game or two in to have a blast on this. I haven't been tempted enough by the look of it to fork out for the PSN version so knowing I can sell it on if I think its tripe is nice.

Oy! Dont drag me into this. I like PAIN.

It's good old fashioned gameplay. No story, no cutscenes, not a thinly veiled tech demo, just pure uncut gameplay.

You have wonder how well it will sell on disc due to it being easier to download, quite old and quite low profile, but at that price point (probably going for £15 in shops) I don't think anyone can complain and as there will have been minimal refactoring to make it a disc release it's pretty much a pure profit proposition.
