Okami confirmed for Wii
Wiimote controls, early 08.
Capcom has finally confirmed persistent rumours that Okami is coming to Nintendo Wii, telling a London audience this week that the game will arrive on our screens in spring 2008.
Celebrated on PS2 for its absorbing puzzle and action adventure mechanics, gripping narrative inspired by Japanese folklore and beautiful watercolour visuals, its rebirth on Wii has been much hyped.
The game also lends itself rather well to the potential of Nintendo's Wiimote for control. Amaterasu's Celestial Brush - a paintbrush used in combat and for solving puzzles - is a perfect fit for the Wiimote, and so it proves, while combat will also include various "motion-controlled physical attacks".
On the whole though, it's the game that Kristan loved so much it got top marks, calling it "a game so engrossing, so crafted and so life-affirming that nothing else in the world seems to matter". In sentence number two.

Thanks for clearing up the rumour fog

Anyway, great news. Never played it due to a lack of a PS2 when it was released.

*What else did they reveal?
*Why did they want it under wraps until tomorrow?
*If it's so bloody important that no one talks about it why not hold the press event tomorrow?

I'm sure Capcom will do a great job of the port, too, as the Celestial Brush is just ideal for WiiMote controls.

Yes the graphics issue. The PS2's rough around the edges look made it look even more watercolourish. Will it be too smooth on teh gamecube-esque wii?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Well this is that line incarnate. This game was a Wii game before the Wii met...it.

I think you must have your games mixed up.

If it'd ended when it should've (won't spoil it) it would've been an all-time great. But it's so cynically elongated.... a shame.

Yeah, it was destined for the Wii before it even knew.
it is more capable than a PS2. Or at least you'd hope that's the case.
Well the Gamecube itself was much more capable than the PS2, let alone two of them duct taped together.

Yeah, I couldn't afford it either. Was going to save, but it got to the point where I just wanted to finish it... I clocked in at about 44 hours.

Agreed. Had it ended at the first 'major' boss it would've felt a lot more concise and possibly enjoyable. Had it even ended on the second island off the coastline (trying not too give too much away...) it would've felt fine...
I love the game tremendously, but it did feel like it was a little padded out for the sake of it.

...bugger that, i'll just get both.

They're similarly capable. Confusion arises because the Gamecube's CPU had a faster clock speed (485mhz vs the PS2's 299mhz), but the processor architectures and build of each console are so wildly different that a direct comparison is nigh on impossible. The difference is all down to bus speeds in different places, but that's where my knowledge ends. The tech specs are on wiki if you'd like to look them up for yourself.

haha, my arse. A little green fairy telling you what to do all the time constitutes gripping narrative nowadays?
Okami isn't that good. Easy, terrible pacing, tries too hard to be Zelda, boring combat.

Still, the PS2 RE4 was very well done by Capcom, but nobody should pretend the PS2 was not the weakest of the three. Just like nobody should pretend the Wii isn't, this time around.
But yeah, the point of this post that a Wii Okami should run better and still have plenty room left over for widescreen or some extra polish perhaps... but I'm not holding my breath for anything but a 1:1 port.

Cutscenes are longish but not that bad.
As for easy, they didn't try to get all the stray beads
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Cut scenes are fine, although occasionally unnecessary.
The main game is incredibly easy, and if you get all the Stray Beads (an optional side quest) the difficultly suddenly jumps up to the ridiculous level on some of the later beads - the final Spider pit jumps to mind where you have to face off against multiple previous bosses at the same time (doesn't help that fact that they're all a lot tougher then when you faced them individually). So there are some balancing issue.

Okami on the Wii makes perfect sense. The movement in my loins tells me I'm very happy.

I hope this is succesful as Id love to see a DS version of this too.

"Okami's ideas would have worked far better on the Wii, but that's never going to happen, now, is it?"
Heh. I guess that question is now answered. Bring on Okami for the Wii! I now have a reason to buy a Wii this Christmas.
