No LEGO Indy demo for UK Indy DVDs News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

4 March, 2008

Paramount and Lucasfilm are reportedly set to include a LEGO Indiana Jones demo with upcoming special edition Region 1 DVD releases of the Indiana Jones films.

However, Activision - LucasArts' UK distributor - told Eurogamer it was "pretty certain there won't be [playable] demos for the UK re-releases", although there is a trailer.

Then again, we're not even sure if the US DVDs feature a proper demo. Out on 13th May as single-film discs and a new re-mastered boxed set, they promise "Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures Game Demo and Trailer".

However, as we learnt from the Resident Evil: Extinction Blu-ray fiasco, the movie world's use of the word "demo" can be misleading.

If it is a proper demo though, expect a mad scramble to upload it to the Internet - assuming it's PC - on or around the 13th May US DVD releases.

Or perhaps it will be released more widely beforehand. The game itself is due out on 3rd June in Americaland for seven platforms: PS3, 360, PS2, DS, PSP, PC and Wii.

A bigger question is why are Lucasfilm releasing "Special Edition" Indy on DVD and not Blu-Ray? I guess we'll have to wait another 5 years for a super-dooper-special remastered Blu-ray version of the movies. Sigh.

Maybe because not many people buy any blu-ray ever? DVD is still the main format.

It'll probably be Xbox, like all the Star Wars ones.

I'm a bit pissed that they're releasing another spesh edish just before the fourth film comes out! Oh well - I deliberately avoided buying Indy on DVD for AGES knowing there'd be a fourth film, so I can wait a little bit longer to get my four-film boxset!

"I'm a bit pissed that they're releasing another spesh edish just before the fourth film comes out!"

Welcome to the greedy world of movie studios they ALWAYS do it!

As for the article, does it really matter? I buy DVDs for movies not for game demos.

Uh-oh... Special Edition?

(Remembers the original Star Wars trilogy)

So is Lucas going to tamper with (tweak) the originals so they're more in line with the new movie and add some fancy CGI effects too then?

I have the original movies on DVD already and don't plan on buying them again until they're released on Blu-ray. I'm sure the fourth movie will appear on BD around Christmas so it's only a matter of time before the others do.

According to the latest Edge article, Lego Indy does not carry any Nazi signs on the bad guys, so maybe they can wipe them out of the movies too, in the spirit of global politically correctness :)

jebus it's only a demo, it will be downloadable worldwide at the same time or a week after. Did I mention it's just a demo? We know the score from Playing lego Star Wars. It's not like it's exclusive levels or the full game or something.

And ftr if the *NEW* film is any good I will indeed be buying it on BluRay - DVDs are dead to me now even with my current upscaling DVD player I was getting frustrated with 2/3s of them quality wise on a HDTV.
