No Beyond Good and Evil 2 at E3

Ubisoft confirms it's a no-show.

Ubisoft has told Eurogamer there are no plans to show Beyond Good and Evil 2 at this year's E3.

The confirmation came after UGO was told something similar by a Ubi representative. The person UGO spoke to said it won't be playable at the show. While they haven't ruled out showing the game during Ubi's press conference, "Don't expect it."

Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first unveiled last May, but since then very little info has emerged. You can catch up on it and view the teaser trailer over on the gamepage.

Oh well. I wasn't expecting a playable version right at this point anyway, it's only been a year since it was announced.

i don't think its a question of seeing it playable at this stage, rather a case of just seeing 'something'...

Well, no it's not but it is a bit disappointing. I was hoping to see what they're doing.

This is probably mirrors edge footage as it has all the acrobatics for that game. Also the weapon is a samurai sword, which I would have thought was a dead give away that this isn't from beyond good and evil 2. Incidentally the main character looks like the runner from mirrors edge not Jade from good and evil. No pig man sidekick, no future world or spaceships. The bloomin' list of non matching features just goes on and on.

I take it some person got hold of this footage and touted it as beyond good and evil 2 with zero reason, except they hoped it was.

Edit: If this does somehow turn out to be Ubi's new vision for beyond 2, then they've royaly fraked it up as the gameplay simply doesn't match in any way shape or form.

Impossible. The visual style couldn't be more different, not to mention the 3rd person-perspective. Whatever it is, it looks absolutely nothing like ME.

Look at the clothes in this shot. It's a perfect match, down to the ribbon around her arm. It also looks stylistically just like the screenshot.

Matches perfectly fine - don't you remember the chase sequences from BG&E?

But the beauty of BG&E was it blurred genres together. You had chasey segments and stealthy segments and driving shooty segments and puzzle segments etc. That's why BG&E was such a ride. It was enjoyable because it constantly kept you interested, wondering what was next.

I like the look of it, I like the desperation of it, but the only thing that makes me think it is not BG&E is - no animal people. No Pey'j, no other animal people, just lots of generic humans. Seeing as the rich culture and diversity of Hyllis was such a prominent thing, abandoning it for the next-gen seems somewhat off. The police were not strange in any way...

I guess what makes me wonder and hope it isn't BG&E is that it looks actually, dare I say it, rather plain and boring... it's pretty, but there's no spark or "ooh, look at that!". That wasn't BG&E. And it shouldn't be for BG&E2.

Why of course, but the video is just one minute long, showing a continuous scene. I have absolutely no idea how that makes you think it would miss all those elements you mentioned.

    edit:
FWIW, it might well be something else, but the idea that it's BG&E isn't exactly far-fetched.

Actually Lou I was respopnding to an earlier comment but thanks for your witty sarcasm anyway. ¬.¬''

Yeah, it might be BG&E but if it is, then it's off to a shockingly bad start in convincing the old fans it's in keeping with the old game. It's just too plain and too boring.

But saying that, some lovely cinematic vistas of Hyllis will silence me.

Well, now you've got me confused. Not only do I not know to whom you actually were responding, I also wasn't sarcastic at all.
  • Kami #18 3 years ago

Well, you just set off my sarcasm alarm there with the "I have absolutely no idea how that makes you think it would miss all those elements you mentioned." line. I didn't sort of say that was missing from the trailer, but just what BG&E did.

What a teaser video like that is supposed to do is get us excited and if it's BG&E2, it's failed pretty miserably. It's pretty, but parkour platforming is pretty good looking enough now and mostly everyone is doing it and doing it well - also coming from Ubisoft, I'd kind of expect all that to happen and not only be good but be the gaming equivilent of a handjob from Kylie Minogue.

It just fails as a BG&E2 tease. Because it's showing us what we've seen done plenty of times already, and has nothing in there to detract the eye and think, "Ooh!" and pause a scene to spot an easter egg or something interesting.

In closing, BG&E2 has a lot to live up to. If that's what they've got to show us so far, I'm thoroughly disappointed.
