No Army of Two demo pre-release News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

2 August, 2007

Army of Two lead designer Chris Ferriera says that as much as EA Montreal would love to do a demo, they sort of need to concentrate on the game instead.

Asked when we might see one, he told Eurogamer: "Not prior to release. I don't know if there'll be something later, but the thing is given our release date [15th November for PS3 and Xbox 360 in the US and Europe] and where we're at, we'd rather focus on this rather than taking engineers off and having them do a demo."

Ferriera also refused to be drawn on whether we'd see more players supported in future.

"I can't talk about any expandability beyond the two-player co-op. I'm not allowed to talk about that right now," he said, describing two players as "an easy entry point" for the company's co-op approach.

As to whether that rules out an Army of Four or Army of Sixteen further down the line, he joked: "I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of such numbers of players."

For more on Army of Two, check out our recent first impressions, and look out for the full interview with Chris Ferriera soon.

Didn't care if it had a demo. Pure co-op is a no buy for me. Plus the guy with the Iron Mask is way too macho-lame for me.

Yeah, I'm quite looking forward to this, but ideally not without a demo. Will have to rely on reviews being good/accurate then!

if the appeal isn't instant or the control / feel alien then a demo can make a good game seem bad. Took me a while to truly click with the handling on Gears of War and The Darkness and if there had been pre-release demos I think it'd've put me off them both, despite them both being games I've greatly enjoyed.

I can see how the co-op stuff and the team moves could take too long to appreciate for something as throwaway as a demo for this - that said I still want to play a demo and am slightly suspicious... ah well

As long as Eurogamer review it pre-release then I'd be happy to buy blind - it looks good enough already to me.

So if most reviews gave it 10/10 (unlikely? I know), you still wouln't get it?

No matter how well it plays, a game that features two bulky guys with hockey masks and guns simply doesn't appeal to me.

So it's 2 player co-op only?

Going by what I have seen so far they could do with delaying it till next year.

Thought this had co-op and single play with the other jason being AI controlled

It does. Who thought it was 2plyr only?

...and what is with the lame ''Jason/hockey mask'' mentions? Do any of you know what a ballistics mask is, and what it's used for? FFS

Yes, but that doesn't make it any prettier. Realism in games isn't always (might arhue never) a good thing. But I'm OK with you liking it.
