NFS Shift adds teams, Legendary Cars News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

23 November, 2009

EA has revealed a free add-on for Need for Speed: Shift that will bolt-on Team Racing and a handful of vintage supercars.

The new content arrives worldwide for Xbox 360 on 1st December. European PS3 owners will receive the new content on 3rd December but North Americans must wait until 10th December.

Team Racing splits 12 drivers into two equal teams, the idea being to ram others off the road by behaving like a van driver in Croydon at rush hour.

The new cars are a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T and 1998 Toyota Supra Mark IV.

Need for Speed: Shift steered the series off of the streets and back onto a race-track. Head over to our Need for Speed: Shift review to find out more.

"Need for Speed: Shift steered the series off of the streets and back onto a race-track"

Sliding and squealing, oversteering / understeering all the way.

And finally release dates for the long awaited patch have also been announced on their official forums (today apparently on the PS3 - better load up the game and check - December 1st on 360 and PC).

Despite several pretty severe bugs (which I've fortunately only run into a couple of times), it's been a hugely enjoyable "sim light" after I hooked up my old G25 to my PS3. With a gamepad however - well, "twitchy" is probably the best word to describe how I felt about that experience.
I expect I'll be playing this at least until GT5 arrives. When was that again? March 2012 or something? :)

Yeah Miths, you'll have to modify the sensitivity et al if you use the pad. I had a horrible time with the quicker cars until I changed the dead-zone and sensitivity. Good game never the less.
Here's hoping they've fixed the stupid suspension bug I encountered with one of my cars, it would bounce like crazy sometimes.

The suspension bug has reportedly been fixed. It's in the patch notes, but this post from someone who has downloaded the PS3 patch today also sounds very positive about several other fixes.

Nice news, the magnetic grass was pretty annoying as well. I'll have to try downloading this patch tonight.

So do we PC gamers get this DLC then?

Good news that the patch is coming out for the PC version... it's long overdue IMO. The game has been out almost two months and the forums are full of threads from people experiencing issues with the game. Seems clear to me that the game was released unfinished and/or properly tested as it's chocka full of glitches and bugs ranging from full on crashes to msiplaced grass and people sticking out of cars!!!

As for me, well the game constantly crashed when starting the race on my system with both Vista and 7 yet every other game I have installed works perfectly. I only fixed the problem by copying two PhysX DLL files from another game folder into the SHIFT one. If I hadn't have stumbled across that solution then I'd have had a game I wouldn't have been able to play for two months.

Note to EA: next time for the inevitable sequel, please make sure you actually test the game thoroughly on 64-bit Windows before releasing it. I don't pay you to be a beta tester. Thank you.
