    Hello?.....McFly?....Anyone in there McFly????

Was this not released last week? Haven't most people by now either played it, read a review or at least seen some screen shots/trailers of it? Let's pick up the pace on the news stories shall we EG? Please? ;)

Should just add - got it, played it, love it. As one review I read said, it's a little 'random' in places, but it's great fun just the same. Haven't tried the online element yet though - hoping desperately that it works better than the Burnout 3 online did. That really was a bag-o-shite!!! :)

This IS a bit redundant at this point...
  • Huntcjna #3 6 years ago

I bought it, I loved it, I had an amazing weekends online play, then EA proved again how shite there servers are when there are more than about 10 people online, then I got bored of it, hopefully it still holds some decent suprises

However when xbox live actualy bloody works its awesome

Almost made me want more burnout but after being bitten by B3 (which i reall liked at first but i'm now very apathetic towards now) how much of the game is skill and how much of it is luck?
Looked very brown as well, brown and smeary due to the motion blur i suppose. ;)

@ Huntcjna - Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Don't tell me that!!!

Why do EA insist on using their own crank-start, petrol driven, 50p coin opereated servers, which have time after time after time after time (ad infinitum) failed to work for me??

And @ slide_away - I'm not normally a nasty person, but for fuck's sake, give it up will you. You're not funny with the 'trailer for xyz over at abc' shite! This will be my one and only response to you as I feel that if I bite anymore, then I'm only providing you with some sort of purile and infantile satisfaction......so there....

It really really really pissed me off it took me 40 minutes last night to get into one game and I had some amazing games at the weekend. I was championing it as my new favourite live game when you get a good set of people and go a few rounds in road rage its hella fun. However EA do indeed seem to have pissed on my chips AGAIN roll on Farcry on friday at least I know it will have good live support.

This news is a bit late isn't it? Can't be much else worth posting about then?
  • sickpuppysoftware #9 6 years ago

Played the the PS2 version online over the past few days.

If I play it online at lunchtime it's great with a variety of games filling up and starting promptly.
Play it at night whe the Americans have woken up however :
Constantly being kicked when trying to join a game.
Idiots using the game as a basic chat forum and refusing to actually race.
People dropping out of races when it's not going their way.
You can join a race or for a bit of variety a race, no crash modes, no chase races nothing but vanilla races.
  • pikemon #10 6 years ago

    news, huh?

anyway, first 45 minutes of burnout revenge feels really fresh after the eventually tiring burnout 3... better gfx, improvements in the game mechanics (ai cars have their revenge by not being as easy to take down, ploughing trough same direction traffic works great), better TRACK DESIGN.... only the music's shite and the perpetual first traffic attack mission is plain ridiculous

WHERE IS THE SYSTEM LINK SUPPORT???

I wonder why eurogamer can't be arsed to do a review?
  • krudster #12 6 years ago

  • TheDifficult3rdAlbum #13 6 years ago

    > "EA hasn't sent a copy, basically."

  • Huntcjna #14 6 years ago

Next we'll be getting news of a Mario 64 Trailer.
  • Eighthours #16 6 years ago

I haven't played this online since Sunday (when it was working perfectly). EA have crapped up the servers AGAIN? Say it ain't so!!
  • PearOfAnguish #17 6 years ago

"how much of the game is skill and how much of it is luck?"

It's difficult to tell. At times it feels like a luge game on wheels.

"Looked very brown as well, brown and smeary due to the motion blur i suppose. ;)"

Yeah, that's about right. The graphics just sort of smear into each other.
  • Fatfish #18 6 years ago

@ Pikemon - I'm guessing you're playing on a PS2 then? Otherwise if it's xbox then......er.....why don't you copy your own tunes to the HDD and play them instead? And actually, I think a few of those tracks are pretty cool - remix of The Bravery and Chemical Brothers are just two that spring to mind. Failing that, turn music off, sfx up and CD player on?!?!? ;)

  • Arganoid #19 6 years ago

It doesn't feel as convincing or polished as Burnout 3. And it is indeed very brown, it's like they're trying to make it seem more 'urban' and 'street' by featuring loads of abandoned warehouses and rust.
  • pikemon #20 6 years ago

Fatfish: i really haven't had the time to figure out whether the soundtrack was customizable or not, never mind to transfer the tracks needed from vinyl/internet to cd-rw:s to my box... i thought past EA games like NBA Street Vol 2 didn't allow custom sountracks... i'm playing on xbox of course, as with the 2 and 3 :D...
  • RobTheBuilder #21 6 years ago

    Plus:

    Crash mode is much improved
Handling is closer to BO2 (ie better than BO3)
    Traffic takedowns are excellent
    Progression system is better
Cars feel much more valuable, instead of just 10 variations on a shape.
My mate designed the cover :)

    Minus:

PS2 version starting to show strain, first ever sign of frame drop in Burnout
Slight hint of pop up makes judging cars harder than ever
HD 360 version is months away!

Played the game this weekend. First I must say that Burnout as a series is amazing, and above and beyond other arcade racers.

I played the PS2 version, and frankly it is hard to be convinced by any other arcade racer on any platform right now - I am totally unnerved and overwhelmed by the sheer graphical quality. Yes it looks brown, but I think people would have complained more if they had stuck to last year's template.

Gameplay wise it is, as some pointed out, often a matter of luck, but that makes it all the more exciting. As for the stupid traffic attack mode, I thought it stupid before I played it - it gives you some kind of perverse, deranged satisfaction. Couple this with the cheers during the Crash mode, and you have another lawsuit in the making, not to mention a totally mental, bonkers gaming experience.

Soundtrack is better than last year, although the in-game sound FX are way more entertaining. Turn the music off, guys (and gals) adn enjoy the sights and sounds as God - and Criterion - intended them to be.

The car models are incredibly good looking and tasteful. As always, the sheer fact that there is so much traffic on the roads adds to the realism, although none is needed. EA have done a fantastic job on the top-notch presentation, and from the title to the menus to the save screens, to the amazing trophies, everything is slick and dripping with atmosphere.

The only problem to me seems to be the atrocious load times on the PS2 version at least. Really spoils the fun and effectively sours an otherwise flawless experience.

EA did well to buy Criterion - after all this is the only legitimate racer they have, NFS losing the plot with Underground. A Niner, in my opinion.

HA! EG don't give me a review, I write my own!!!!!

@ Wink - try reading some of the other posts then. About 90% of his are as I said "see xyz trailer at abc.com" etc, etc. Gets very boring, very fast!

I'll assume you haven't seen his other posts and therefore not bite at the 'period' comment. Although, I do wonder where I'd be expected to put the cotton mouse - not sure that I've got the right anatomy - at least not last time I checked!?!
  • Fatfish #24 6 years ago

Fair comment pikemon - must admit, it was one of the first 'novelties' of the xbox I toyed with.......only to then find that most games didn't allow the customisable soundtracks. Bonus when they do though!
  • peterfll #25 6 years ago

Four days into playing BR. Technically the graphics are stunning, although not as bright and cheerful as B3 (which I thought was excellent and which I still play a year after release). I like the new “controversial” Traffic Checking feature. The music is a huge improvement over B3 – as already mentioned some of the tracks e.g. The Chemical Brothers – are actually great. Just make sure you go to the options and switch off the rest of the crass rock trash that seems to get saddled with every EA release. Who actually likes this music? Anyone?! And generally the other modes are as fun as ever although I would say its more difficult that E3.

Negatives: I don’t like some of the changes to Crash mode - the new swing-o-meter start adds nothing to it and can be quite irritating. I actually thought the multipliers were a fun feature of E3 and miss them. But the worst addition has to be the changes to the crash-breaker. Hammering buttons was fun in 1983 playing Track & Field but has no place in a modern video game.

    Still, recommended.
  • LOLLERS #26 6 years ago

EA did well to buy Criterion

Yeah, maybe they'll regret it when they realise half of what they bought has resigned and all they're left with is a name.
    Edited by 1 at 29/09/05 @ 10:27
  • Talha #27 6 years ago

Well at least they have the name and the engine and the IP - compared to the stinking mess they have made of the Need for Speed franchise, it is still A LOT. Mind, I acknowledge the commercial success of the last two NFS and I do admit that EA is a business, but....

  • LOLLERS #28 6 years ago

yep, an engine that in about 6 months will be obsolete.
  • Talha #29 6 years ago

Wait, you mean its not obsolete already?? By the way, this addition of Burnout does not have a Renderware credit in the opening - wonder why.
  • MBar #30 6 years ago

Just one comment so far about Burnout Revenge:

TOO MANY CRASH-JUNCTIONS IN SINGLE PLAYER!

Is it only me that enjoys the racing?
  • BBIAJ #31 6 years ago

    Too many crash junctions?

There are only around 40/50 in Revenge, compared to at least 100 in 2 and 3...
  • Squig #32 6 years ago

    @MBar

I agree! Though I enjoy the crash junctions more than I did in B3, I still begrudge having to play through the buggers in BR just to get to more races!
  • Talha #33 6 years ago

Next time I want someone posting about NOT AGREEING with someone - its not a lovefest! I want fireworks! The forums have become so polite and boring lately!!
  • Squig #34 6 years ago

    @Talha

    I dont agree! I want politeness :)
