Tekken 6 for PS3

So Famitsu says.

Namco Bandai's confirmed that Tekken 6 will be appearing on PlayStation 3.

That's according to an article in the latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu, partly translated by IGN.

There's no word on a release date, or indeed anything of any real substance beyond the name, which isn't exactly the most imaginative name ever either, is it?

Still, it's good news for fans of Namco's long-running beat-'em-up series, who first caught glimpse of Tekken on the PS3 during Sony's showreel of demos at last year's pre-E3 press conference.

Assuming Sony has PS3 demos available at E3, Tekken 6 may very well be among them - or we might just see a video, who knows.

Whatever happens, you will. Assuming you read our words and that.

    Why is this "news"? Sony showed a pre-rendered trailer for PS3 Tekken at last year's E3 so this comes as no surprise to me at all....

    Other than to add inevitable online modes, do you think they will change the formula, or stick to the tried and tested gameplay in Tekken 6? I ask, because I think with 4 they tried to change it up and it didn't go down to well, but maybe, with new hardware, they can try something new?

    Who am I kidding, if they can get away of it, of course they will keep releasing the same game?

    As its likely to be a PS3 launch title, it'll be called Tekken Tig Tournament, where the characters run around various locations, such as playgrounds, lunchrooms and halls, tigging each other till one of them is 'IT' for long enough, that their energy bar depletes. There will also be an unlockable 'Kiss Chase' mode.

    Eh, I'll give it a go. Tekken 4 was a bit shit, but Tekken 5 was pretty great. If they can make this one as much one and with as much to do, I'll be pleased enough, though I'd be a lot happier if Namco would just get on with Soul Calibur 4 to be honest.

    They better get it out before the PS3 version of Virtua Fighter 5, which will 0wn Tekken as it always does.

    NO! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

    Please, no Soul Calibur 4 just yet. I want them to get it right this time. SC3 was a huge disappointment for me, graphically it was very glitchy and poor, stylewise far too dull, the changed battle mechanics worked against it... and to cap it all off, Story Mode suffers from the same abysmally poor and unpredictable AI as Tekken 5.

    They need to take their time with SC4. I don't want to play another Soul Calibur game that breaks my heart... I don't think I could take that.

    Tekken, on the other hand, has been awful since Tekken 3. They can do whatever the hell they like to that. I just don't care anymore.

    Im bored of all fighters now.. they need something different, much prefer games like Ninja Gaiden that have deep'ish combat in an action adventure game.

    Nuh-uh Gylo. I'm just in it for some fun. Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 3 suffered from Namco's strange obsession with awful AI. Jinpachi is the stuff of nightmares for most people...

    I'm just bracing for more crushing disappointment from Tekken 6. Because I don't want to get my hopes up...
