New Halo 3 screenshot

Yep, just the one, sadly.

Bungie has released a new screenshot for Halo 3, the Xbox 360 game that Microsoft is hoping will help send the PS3 to an early grave.

You can check it in via Eurogamer's Halo 3 screenshot gallery - and in case you haven't seen it yet (fat chance), there's also a trailer on Eurogamer TV.

As confirmed by Bungie last week, Halo 3 is set to have a much "darker feel" than its predecessors, and will present "some graphical features that you haven't seen yet, that sort of blow stuff away."

There's still no word on a release date, but we do know that Halo 3 has been in development for some time, since work on the game began immediately after Halo 2 was finished. Here's hoping for more sneak peeks soon...

"Graphical stuff that blows you away"

I love when the devs push their products speaking of the great gameplay that awaits you when you boot the game. Oh, they are speaking of the graphics AGAIN? Sad next gen.

Which one is the new shot, the one that comes up I have seen many times before on megagames?

You know when you work on something for so long that you can't even tell what's good/bad with it anymore?
    Welcome to Bungie.
Please make Halo 3 better than 2.

Don't waste your time with Eurogamers poor gallery (sorry guys, I love the site, but really don't like the gallery) enjoy huuuuge images here:

Why do ppl alway slag H2, i don't know of any other game ppl are still playing as regularly as H2?

It's big rival at release GTA:SA will most probably be collecting dust on shelves every where now while me and many others are still playing H2.

I think a lot of ppl let the hype misslead them, games like Halo3, GoW are not going to be as gud as you will be made to beleive on the run up 2 their launch.

That doesn't mean to say they arn't some of the best games around.

P.S. How is this a NEW screenshot? there just stills of the video every 1 has seen.

I just don't think Halo appeals to everyone :-/
  • Xerx3s #8 6 years ago

    Thinktank: +1.

H2 has been one of the best live experiences to date and the singleplayer is very nice imo. The thing that killed it for me though, where the trashtalking laming cheators. But i still boot up for a game every once in a while, just to play with friends.

"I just don't think Halo appeals to everyone :-/"

And GTA does? GTA1 was great, after that it became a chav game imo. But you dont hear those ppl nag at every chance.

I agree the trash talk did spoil it abit, but it didn't stop me playing and MS's contants updates have realy lessend the number of cheaters.

I think the new reputation system in the 360 is a great idea, it has worked really well for ebay and hopefully will stop all those little 12 year old smart mouths apoiling things.

    off topic, sorry!

I am with you on this one. EG's gallery is more like a thumbnail image so you know to start looking for a decent one. The irony of them showing the HD shots of XBOX360 stuff seemed lost (or ignored) when the images were a 1/4 of native res.

Big thanks for the link, unsure if the image is a resize or it's native res (perhaps for a magazine cover print? as native seems likely).

If you guys think H2 is good online, you should play counter-strike source. ;)
  • nickthegun #12 6 years ago

On the one hand, Yay, looks amazing. On the other hand, damn its a long wait.

Been playing through H2 and, to be fair, the gfx are still holding up pretty well. The human NPCs all look a bit zombified, but all in all, it doesnt look too shabby at all.

A halo related comments thread? I wonder how this will go.
  • MrAtheist #14 6 years ago

"Am I the only person in the world who didnt think much of Halo?"

"How original *yawn* No youre not you suck"

    "No you suck"

    "No Halo sucks"

    "No it doesnt you suck"

    Repeat. The End.

Right we dont need any more comments move on to the next thread... :)

    "Sad next gen."

Just what were people expecting from the next gen? Makes your bed? Gives you a reason to get up in the morning? Holograms? Sexual favours? Free money? Eternal sunshine?

I'm afraid its better graphics, physics and more things on screen.

    >I'm afraid its better graphics, physics and more things on screen.

Very true.... it has always been like that. Video games is about evolution... not re... haha! no sadly not even Wii will do that ;)
  • penhalion #18 6 years ago

    @Thinktank

I think (well I know it is for me anyways) that the disapointment with halo2 isn't about the multiplayer but about the single player, which is after all why most people brought it in the first place!

That's why a lot of people are reluctant to commit to buying halo3. If the single player is as awful as halo 2 then you essentially are spending 50 quid on a few new multiplayer levels.

Yeah, not sure myself - but all I know is you can scale them to make nice dual screen desktops ;)

Misleading title. I was expecting an in-game screenie, not a still from a video most of us here have undoubtedly watched already.
  • thinktank #21 6 years ago

I can understand people having defferent opinions on what they like and don't like, but describing H2 as awful?

I'm not sure if you are a FPS fan penhalion, but if you are if find it strange that can desribe H2 as awful?

Sure it has issues, but to me it does more than most fps games (opinion i know).

Do you not think that hype gave you unrealistic expectations?
  • AtomicBanana Verified Level Designer, Playground Games #22 6 years ago

    That'll be at next years e3 :p
  • neuroniky #23 6 years ago

@thinkthank: the game is good (in MP). It's regularly played. But its not as good or as regularly played as Counter Strike Source, Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament 2k4 and so on... it's just that if you have a past in PC Multiplayer videogaming Halo 2 it's not that great a game anymore...
  • Tweakmonkey #24 6 years ago

    The PC is still king.

the PC is still king at a certain type of game and gameplay style that suits the pc, wow, what a revelation :p

CS:S Is complete trash - CS 1.6 is still played by many, many more people and even that isn't that great. Stop with the elitist attitude, it makes you look stupid. As much as you want to look down upon games like this, you can't.
  • jlaakso #26 6 years ago

I'm a card-carrying Halo fanboy, and the single-player or co-op experience of the Halo 2 campaign just never reached the heights of the original. Sad but true, and the reason I'm not anywhere as excited about H3 as I oughta be. The Arbiter stuff was just weak. (I've played the original big H through at least four times, plus three times with buddies. H2, one aborted campaign - I never even saw the much-maligned ending.)

So not a bad game by any stretch of imagination, but not as focused and polished as the original was. I can't comment on the MP stuff as I never played it in MP.
  • Skooch #27 6 years ago

For me H1 was all about the campaign and LAN parties, H2 was all about Live and Multiplayer (which I think it does exceptionally well), so H3 is probably going to be all about Live Co-Op....personally I can't wait. :-)

    +1

But this is about a single still from the game.
And as far as I'm aware, the E3 video was all from the in-game renderer (not pre-rendered) correct?
I think we'll be waiting a long time before we see anything of any real substange regarding H3.

It's Next Gen: it's now the same 45 seconds of fun repeated over and over again... ;)
  • projectmayhem #30 6 years ago

neuroniky: i don't think they were talking about how nice the graphics are. they were more likely to be referring to some new systems which are rumoured to map out 14square miles of explorable area without pop-up or having to load stuff.

graphics aren't just prettiness, but are also functioning parts of the gameplay. look at GTA: SA. looks fairly shoddy, but the graphics that are implemented allow for very little pop-up (granted it's horrible in a plane at times) but with constant streaming.

"Halo 3 is set to have a much "darker feel" than its predecessors"

Oh, FFS! Why does everything have to be so bloody dark! The original Halo was great because it was simple and FUN.

  • I_Have_The_Power #32 6 years ago

    "darker feel"

So master chief will have a rugged long hair wig and a goatee stuck on the front of his helmet?
  • Crashmasters #33 6 years ago

    A "darker feel" ?
Let's hope they don't take that literal. I really didn't like the desorienting dark levels in Halo 2.
Also couldn't see what I was shooting at most of the time...

I want outdoor levels (and I'm not talking about space).
