BFME2 multiplayer patch

No more quitting out on 360.

Electronic Arts has patched up the Xbox 360 version of Battle for Middle-Earth II so that the game now punishes people who disconnect before the end of a game in the hope of avoiding a loss.

Patch 1.01 is an automatic update, which makes it so that if you disconnect on your opponent in a multiplayer match, you will get an automatic loss, while he or she gets an automatic win.

The patch also sorts out an issue with friends not showing up in the lobby, and corrects a couple of other minor problems. You can read more about it on the game's official website.

But what about being disconnected for legitimate reasons? Such as having NTL as your service provider?

The v1.01 patch notes say it's addressed this:

"Addressed technical issues associated with memory"

Odd, because after the patch had automatically been applied last night, I then loaded my save game for the Good Campaign and had to endure about two minutes of horrendous slowdown while the game tried to sort itself out. It's not a major issue but I don't recall it happening BEFORE this patch... :?

I have had the slowdown issue ever since I first played it - after the FMV intro for each level, the start of the level just chugs as it does its in-engine intro bit...and for a short while afterwards too...

Incidentally, shouldn't ALL games come with the 'quitting means an automatic loss' as standard?

OK, so connection does sometimes drop out (it happened to me at the weekend, so i'm not immune), but on the whole it's obvious when people are quitting to save themselves a loss...

Read this as a patch for BF2MC and was nearly excited.

Yep, thats just what I was thinking. Happens to me about every 6 or so hours. Overnight downloads or long online gaming sessions are a pain.

Did anyone else notice that the map pack Aragorn's Journey halved in price overnight the other week? It seemed to go totally unnoticed and unreported, but it was on Live Marketplace for 700 points for ages, and then suddenly got reduced to 350...

700 points for 3 maps seems a little shocking to be honest...
