New Far Cry from Ubisoft
360 package has Instincts too.
Ubisoft has announced that it's going to release a new console Far Cry game in spring 2006.
At first glance you might make it out as a pair of them, but in actual fact what we've got is Far Cry Instincts Next Chapter - a brand new game for Xbox 1 that features a new story, characters and features that "reflect and improve upon" stuff from the first Instincts, and Far Cry Instincts Predator, which is an Xbox 360 package featuring Next Chapter and "an enhanced version of the original Far Cry Instincts".
Enhanced in the sense that it'll harness the Xbox 360's sex-making chips to provide heightened in-the-eye pleasure, we expect. Says Ubisoft of Instincts Predator: "Gamers will experience advanced pathfinding and new enemy and vehicle artificial intelligence for improved chase scenes and more enemies on-screen at one time, allowing for more adrenaline-rushing fast-action sequences."
Which sounds lovely. It's not utterly clear which team is developing the new game, but it's probably worth pointing out that it's not Crytek, the people who made the PC original, as they're currently sheltering under the mighty financial wing of Electronic Arts. ("Buy eeeeeverything," indeed.) Ubisoft's also released some screenshots of of Instincts Predator and Next Chapter. Enjoy 'em.

Sellouts. Ahh well, they will be cursed to make unoriginal games untill they are nothing more than a brandname.

Well worth the extra money, I'm sure you'll all agree. I for one would gladly pay a hundred quid for a 360 game, for while playing the Xbox is the gaming equivalent of a good orgasm, playing the 360 is the gaming equivalent of shooting your muck in Jessica Alba's face before swiftly inserting the old chap into Kylie Minogue's (Pre-disease) back side.
Pure gaming super-sex... EVOLVED!

Thanks Ubi Soft, just what we wanted, ANOTHER last-gen port with prettier graphics!!! /rolls eyes/

Indeed it was.
Stupid too.

New technology means porting existing software tools over and fine-tuning them plus creating new ones. That procedure takes time and costs money, so it's natural that developers will recycle some current-gen ideas for their first batch of next-gen releases.
We, the customers, have the power to either purchase these recycled games or not. If UbiSoft does a good job on the X360 port of FC Instincts plus expansion, utilizing some of X360's merits thus creating at least a prettier or even better game, where’s the harm?
On another note: Darren, do you reckon that backwards compatibility is up to Microsoft employees or the developers/publishers themselves?

Also, I wonder what the licensing situation is with Far Cry. Obviously, Ubisoft own the name and the setting. But what about the engine... is that one still in Crytek's hands?

And if Rainbow Six: Black Arrow and Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike are any indication, FarCry Next Chapter will be worth its money.
