Ghost Recon devs talk X360

And latest instalment in series.

Two of the developers working on Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare have revealed what they think of the Xbox 360 in a live webchat.

Lead multiplayer designer Christian Allen said he's enjoying developing for the console, stating: "We can have detailed maps, customizable characters, and thousands of game mode combinations..."

"The greatest thing for us is the new live interface and rich presence," he went on.

"Now players have a consistent profile, friends list, etc. This takes the work off of the plates of the developers, and ensures the players have a consistent experience across all Live games."

Game designer Gilles Matouba added: "We were able to push the power of the 360 using our Multi Core technology, which means we can push the 3 processors to the max in terms of animation, post fx, HDR and so on."

The webchat also revealed that up to 16 players will be able to battle it out on Xbox Live, but that Ubisoft is "not currently planning to support clans initially at launch."

So what of the differences between the Xbox 360 game and other versions? Well, Allen revealed that although all the games will follow the same storyline, the 360 also has a co-op campaign that begins once the single-player story ends - "Taking you to Nicaragua against a whole new group of enemies."

While the current-gen Xbox game will only offer a first-person perspective, the 360 one will also feature "a precise aiming view, like a close-up over the shoulder view," according to Matouba.

"For 360 we wanted to give people the option of moving your team, drones and support troops via the 3D tactical map," he added.

There will be 25 weapons available in the single-player game - not counting vehicles - and 35 in multiplayer, including some favourites from previous Ghost Recon games.

You'll have the option to switch weapons with dead opponents and team-mates, and "all high caliber sniper rifles have had the "countersnipe" feature added, so it means you can shoot through certain objects and different walls... Within reason!"

"There is quite a bit of customization, with a whole range of real military gear that you can use," Allen said.

"In addition, you can choose from four different classes that affect your weapon handling, and serve as your character identity."

    gr2 was better than gr. i like the over the shoulder view, as i cannot play fps games, they make me dizzy. i hope more developers include the over the shoulder view as i would love to play call of duty and the like.

    While GR is one of my all-time favorites on the PC, I dind't like it on the Xbox at all. Bad controls, lacking visuals, the worst menu design I've witnessed and it just wasn't a console game. GR2 I still haven't bought, but it sounds like the bomb (no, I don't much hurry in my purchases).

    I got alot out of GR1 on the xbox, I don't think I have ever played a game like it, co-op system link play was fantastic (the menu system was horrible though). I hope that they return to that kind of thoughtful and strategic gameplay in GR3 not the big old pile that was GR2. Apparently GR2 summit strike is a bit of a return to form.

    The (pre-rendered?) movies from GR3 showed over the shoulder viewpoint, I assume that this is roughly how they want to game to play.

    GR2 gave the player a choice. So long as they keep that choice available I'll be OK (insofar as I will continue see whether the rest of the game is good or not). If not, I'll stamp my feet and stuff like that.

    I wasn't interested in this until I saw the in game footage on the oxm disc this month,god it looked sweet,two bits stood out.
    When they're walking down the street and the building unexpectedly explodes in front of them,the motion on the characters was sooo lifelike.
    And when they call the jets in to bomb the tank in front of them.
    And yes I know the difference between fmv and in game graphics.
    My god i'm easily excited...

    I don't have a problem with these being a sequel

    I don't have a problem that certain graphical aspects are less than impressive

    But I effing HATE the title. What is a 'Warfighter' anyway? What happened to good old 'soldier'? Will we be seeing titles like 'Heir to the Throne of Latter-Day Iran', 'Slightly Misaligned One-Unit Organism', ''Spectral Beings Rendezvous', 'Remote High-Pitch Vocalization"? Gimme a break.

    No not the fake pre-rendered demo thingy.
    It was in-game, real-time, updated footage. And it looke bloody beautiful (even on my SDTV).

    Come on Ubi, get this tat finished and out of the way so you can start working on what your fans /really/ want - a proper sequel to Black Arrow. Oh, and we want clan support too - that's a no brainer, what's the damn problem?
