In a statement on its official website, French developer Quantic Dream has confirmed that Omikron 2 is in development after all.

The original Omikron appeared on Dreamcast and PC back in 1999. It combined RPG, FPS, combat and exploration elements and sold more than 600,000 copies. Quantic recently denied that a sequel was being developed, and would only say the project was "under discussion".

No release date for Omikron 2 has been suggested yet, as Quantic is still "finalising initial design documents" for both that title and a new project, Infraworld.

Both games will appear on Xbox, PS3 and PC and will be developed on Quantic Dream's proprietary next-gen engine, which offers "enhanced physics capabilities" and "a range of action-orientated features." Quantic is also in talks with an unnamed middleware developer to integrate enhanced AI capabilities.

More news of both projects is promised soon.
