Crysis delay explained

CEO offers progress report.

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has issued a statement on the developer's behalf explaining why hotly tipped PC first-person shooter Crysis has been delayed.

With the game reportedly due out in publisher EA's next financial year - the 12 months beginning April 2007 - Yerli admits that it will "ship a little later than planned".

"I want to assure everyone that Crytek are working as hard as we possibly can to deliver this game to our fans and consumers in the earliest timeframe that meets our high quality threshold," Yerli explains.

"Taking the extra time in the studio is the right decision because it helps us be sure that we can bring you the experience you expect from this new game."

Yerli also said that the team is trying to get the game working on "the widest variety of PC configs, starting from entry-level PC's up to the hard-core game rigs," which is good news for anybody who's taken a look at recent trailers and felt like sobbing.

"Multiplayer is also an area of big focus for us right now, and we listened very hard to our fans.

"This includes the post-launch modding and community plans. Crysis' core single player is improving all the time - the progress I am seeing from the team right now here in Frankfurt is just staggering," the Crytek CEO added.

Please say it's not true - I was praying for an April release! :'(

The only positive side to this, is that by the time the game comes out it'll be cheaper to upgrade my PC to a spec that'll at least be able to play it.

Far Cry cost me £300 as I had to upgrade my graphics card to a X800 Pro.

I've got big hopes for this game as Far Cry was, and prob still is, my favourite PC FPS.

    When will game companies learn?!

Why not announce a pessimistic date to begin with and release when ready?
That way, had Crysis said "Winter 2007" and ended up releasing in the Summer, we'd all congratulate them on working so hard (as opposed to calling the lazy ;) ).

Still looking forward to it, though.
For some reason, I always get Crysis mixed up with Bioshock (another one I'm looking forward to).

    Translation

"Ohh nice pretty graphics. Enough of that lets put the gameplay in, 2 months should do it"

Shame. By the time it comes out, it's not going to look as amazing as it once did. Gears is already damned near as pretty, and PS3 will be out by then too.

First Alone In The Dark, then Alan Wake, now Crysis... Is Bioshock next? Looks like we'll have to wait a while for next-gen PC games (if you don't count F.E.A.R and Oblivion as such). Anyways, I don't care much cause I wasn't planning on upgrading till summer, which should be a good time for it.

Just seen the new video from this game, it really looks great.

What makes you think GoW/PS3 looks anywhere even close to Crysis? Need glasses?

i dont think anyone's in any hurry to play this game anyway, because virtually no one's computer is fast enough to run it at full quality...

They'd better get it out quickly before the German government decides to imprison them for making violent games.
