New Western FFXIII demo TBC

Game to be spread across three discs.

Square Enix hasn't decided whether the West will be given a Final Fantasy XIII demo, but if is then the content will be very different to the Japanese sampler.

"If we were to provide the demo overseas, it would be a completely new version," said producer Yoshinori Kitase, according to Joystiq. That demo would presumably be offered on Xbox 360 too.

And that Xbox 360 version of the game, Kitase went on to say, will probably span three DVDs.

"This isn't the final count yet, but we're aiming for about three discs," he said.

FFXIII will follow in the footsteps of Mistwalker JRPGS Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, which were both split onto multiple DVDs - three and four, respectively.

Final Fantasy XIII will launch next spring simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 360. North America will go first, but Square Enix promises Europe will not be far behind.

I just hope that the US version is region free, because I hope to avoid retarded territory delays just like I did with Ghostbusters.

3 discs sounds fine. I can wait till spring.

Cue the debate over what is best - the blue ray for one disc, or the 3 discs to install? Hmmmm. Well, if like many (and myself) you have both systems, life is full of such difficult decisions. hahaha

A demo would be very very welcome.

I very much doubt they would drop HD pre renders, that would be bizarre and well ........its just not going to happen.

    lol. 3 discs. lol.
  • monkeywithnoeyes #9 3 years ago

final fantasy has survived on disc swapping for years.. i doubt thats gonna change now. I know i'd certainly take spending 30seconds to swap a disc every 5-10hrs, that be forced to sit through a likely 10-30min install.

So disc swapping wont be an issue... gameplay, and visuals will be though.. so we'll see how the 360 versions fairs there

Installation time and disc swapping are both non-issues. However, this is the internet.

Europeans seem to be lucky, as Ghostbusters is buggy, even on the 360.

    So:

    1) noisy console = not a problem, you can install discs
    2) disc swaps = not a problem, would rather not sit through an install

    Win all around!

    No, we're *possibly* getting a demo :p

Anyway, I had expected four discs if I'm honest, much like Lost Odyssey. But then, we don't know how the game is structured yet. It might be a fairly linear progression without the chance to bactrack to previous areas- it was the inclusion of most of the world (in some cases two different versions of cities depending on story progression) alongside the HD videos that extended the disc span of Lost Odyssey to four.

I don't really expect there to be any difference graphically between the two versions, and the disc wapping vs install time debate will rage on without a victor, for me neither are much of an issue unless, like me, you're starting to run out of space on your PS3 hard drive ;D

CivilD, from what I've seen so far Square region protect every 360 release (if you are talking about the 360 version) so this will likely be protected too. PS3 obviously will be region-free still.
  • stevetuck #15 3 years ago

so its smaller than Lost Odyssey? lets hope it doesnt have a faulty 4th disk or some totally craptacular 'plastic wallet' had to soak the disk in boiling water to get it t work
  • Collymilad #16 3 years ago

    "lol. 3 discs. lol. "

    lol. lazy ****. lol

It matters because?... ah sorry, i didn't realise you were just being a PS3 fanboy, my bad.

Considering Square's track record in bringing games to Europe in a timely fashion, I'm glad that PS3 games are region-free.
However, it looks like this time around Square are really intent on avoiding ungodly delays - PAL countries probably won't have to wait 6 months like we usually do.

Star Ocean: The last hope came on three disks so far no problem with that, although the disk one to disk two change came at a weird place as I switched map zones anyway This also confirms that Advent Children complete on blue ray didn't have the demo. HMV your adds lied to me!

    Think about it...

MS don't want to lose sales so this will only be playable installed to the HDD with Disc 1 in the DVD drive. Otherwise you could be lending it out and playing 1/3 of the game each between friends. After installation, disc swapping will be a complete non-issue if you install this to the HDD. They'll probably even figure a way to cut down on the installation size by removing duplicate assets from the installation process.

But don't let that stop y'all bitching EG!

We should have got the demo with the Advent Children Blu Ray....cheeky blighters!
  • EmiliasHorse #25 3 years ago

Damn the school holidays are still going. Parental controls should prevent children posting on forums (Anthony and Nick)
  • viper_h #26 3 years ago

I will be installing all three discs.
  • MilkYMoO #27 3 years ago

Damn I want to be excited about FFXIII, but I dont like japanese rpgs. The only one I ever liked or actually loved was panzer dragoon saga on the saturn.
  • muscleblade #28 3 years ago

"3 disks lol, 360 is garbage and outdated crap."

I rather have three disks - than weaker visuals and a controlller that belongs in a museum tbh.

If it was 3 discs for the playstation version the 360 fanboys would be having a laugh.

I remember playing Dragon Quest 8 on my PS2 for well over 100 hours. They can't JUST be cut scenes!
  • firefly #32 3 years ago

Still hoping that at least one version of the game comes with the original Japanese voices.

  • phifedawg #35 3 years ago

changing discs 3 times during an RPG isnt a big deal. its better than the installs between levels on MGS4 which are required because the PS3 cant read data off the bluray fast enough.
