New Western FFXIII demo TBC
Game to be spread across three discs.
Square Enix hasn't decided whether the West will be given a Final Fantasy XIII demo, but if is then the content will be very different to the Japanese sampler.
"If we were to provide the demo overseas, it would be a completely new version," said producer Yoshinori Kitase, according to Joystiq. That demo would presumably be offered on Xbox 360 too.
And that Xbox 360 version of the game, Kitase went on to say, will probably span three DVDs.
"This isn't the final count yet, but we're aiming for about three discs," he said.
FFXIII will follow in the footsteps of Mistwalker JRPGS Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, which were both split onto multiple DVDs - three and four, respectively.
Final Fantasy XIII will launch next spring simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 360. North America will go first, but Square Enix promises Europe will not be far behind.

So disc swapping wont be an issue... gameplay, and visuals will be though.. so we'll see how the 360 versions fairs there

Europeans seem to be lucky, as Ghostbusters is buggy, even on the 360.

1) noisy console = not a problem, you can install discs
2) disc swaps = not a problem, would rather not sit through an install
Win all around!

Anyway, I had expected four discs if I'm honest, much like Lost Odyssey. But then, we don't know how the game is structured yet. It might be a fairly linear progression without the chance to bactrack to previous areas- it was the inclusion of most of the world (in some cases two different versions of cities depending on story progression) alongside the HD videos that extended the disc span of Lost Odyssey to four.
I don't really expect there to be any difference graphically between the two versions, and the disc wapping vs install time debate will rage on without a victor, for me neither are much of an issue unless, like me, you're starting to run out of space on your PS3 hard drive ;D

However, it looks like this time around Square are really intent on avoiding ungodly delays - PAL countries probably won't have to wait 6 months like we usually do.

MS don't want to lose sales so this will only be playable installed to the HDD with Disc 1 in the DVD drive. Otherwise you could be lending it out and playing 1/3 of the game each between friends. After installation, disc swapping will be a complete non-issue if you install this to the HDD. They'll probably even figure a way to cut down on the installation size by removing duplicate assets from the installation process.
But don't let that stop y'all bitching EG!

I rather have three disks - than weaker visuals and a controlller that belongs in a museum tbh.
