New Scribblenauts due out this autumn

10,000 new adjectives, improved controls.

5th Cell is working on a new Scribblenauts DS game for release this autumn.

That's according to the latest issue of Nintendo Power (thanks GoNintendo / Kotaku).

According to a developer's post on NeoGAF confirming some of the details, the game is DS-only, and features d-pad controls for Maxwell, improved stylus control and a better camera.

It also promises 10,000 new adjectives in the game's dictionary, the ability to string them together and superior physics.

Most importantly, the developer is designing levels so that it's not so easy to complete levels using the same small range of strategies.

Check out our Scribblenauts review for a reminder of what made the first game so interesting.

Awesome, the first game charmed the pants off me!
Because it's appeal was so broad it was easy to overlook its short comings.

Most importantly, the developer is designing levels so that it's not so easy to complete levels using the same small range of strategies.

Important indeed, but with such an ambitious game, an equal amount of effort is required to tackle such exploits.
Hope they really go all out with this one.

    D-pad controls, I love you 5th Cell...

WOOHOO! I've yet to be convinced that d-pad controls are the saviour for the control mechanism here, but it undoubtedly needs improving somehow.

That said, Scribblenauts is an amazing achievement, and one of my favourite games of all time regardless. Thank you 5th Cell and Nintendo!

    Good news, indeed.

Good luck to them. Polish the annoyances gamers had with the first and they're onto a winner if they can entice people back.

I'm glad a less broken version is coming. Hopefully it'll take a STALKER-like trajectory where the third one ends up being almost perfect (if not the second one). Either way, the only thing that put me off the last one was the poor controls.

The first game was wrong in so many ways but right in a few important ones so I'm glad I bought it. I would happily buy another game with better controls.

Yea, the controls in the first game made it completely unplayable, but there's no doubt the first... 30 minutes or so with the game was mind-blowing.

Still, there was another problem - the puzzle design was pretty weak. Improving the controls is only a first step.

I'm not deliberately rubbishing one of the most original DS games ever, but to be honest I was disappointed. Perhaps I set false expectation in my own mind about how the game would actually be. What I got was some cute but ultimately functional sprites banging into eachother until the weakest died. I don't recall too many bespoke animations. The potential for this on a more powerful platform is exciting but it would probably take much too long to put together
