New Borderlands DLC unveiled

More guns! Raised level cap! Etc.

2K and Gearbox have officially announced the new batch of downloadable content for Borderlands.

Titled The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, it's the largest DLC bundle to date and is coming to PC, PS3 and 360. Expect new enemies, new missions and more guns, plus extra items to collect.

The DLC will also provide "new challenges and opportunities for growth for characters from around level 34 to level 50". Yes, the level cap has been raised too.

There's no word on a price or release date just yet. While you're waiting, why not remind yourself of what makes Borderlands so good in the first place by reading our review?

Does this contain everything we expected to find in the vault at the end of the original game?

I think Gearbox have really nailed it DLC-wise with Borderlands. Releasing lots of good quality stuff within the first few months of the game release while people are still interested in it, as opposed to releasing over six months to a year later than the original game after everyone is bored with it/has sold it on eBay.

This sounds better than Mad Moxxi. I skipped that one.

I've just finnished the zombie DLC. I was really impressed, it quite long and has a completly different area design i.e. woods instead of wastlands.

    This should be really cool.

How about a storage crate, more vehicles and a weapon designer instead?
  • Monkey_Puncher #6 2 years ago

Looks like there's gonna be more vehicles if that screen is anything to go by.
  • metalangel #7 2 years ago

Yeah, just noticed. Hope they have four seats, so everyone can travel in one vehicle instead of two.

At least the new vehicle looks like it's big enough for Brick... he was a bit snug in the gunner's seat of one of Scooter's machines now :p

Hopefully raising the level cap means gaining extra skill points too...

Will this continue to have SecuRom on the PC version?

The original Borderlands was SecuRom-free, then the DLC that they released actually included SecuRom (yeah, in DLC) which then went and added SecuRom files to the original in an update...

    Edit: spelling

Zombie Island of Dr Ned was great. I hope this is more of the same. Can't wait. Hope it's out soon :)

There really is no rest for the wicked....

I loved Borderlands but after playing through it I was done and had no desire to play any of the DLC.

Can't wait for the sequel, hopefully it will have a bit more variety in missions, enemies, terrain and weapons. I know it had a zillion guns (or whatever) but they were all one of about five types just with different ammo and stats, would be good to have some unique/rare weapons.

Borderlands was a good game but it did have some pretty glaring flaws the more you played. It suffered from Bioshock syndrome a little bit in that once you got past the artistic flair, it actually became a pretty average first person shooter. There was a lot of needless running about and all of the areas looked the same, couple that with te 4 enemies you fought throughout the entire game and it all got rather tedious for me.

Dr Ned was funny, but again, once you'd played it for 15 minutes you had played all of it.

    I didn't get Moxxi.

I think I'll wait for a sequel and see if it takes the game a little step further. I'd really like to see an actual reason for having the different character classes, as they all play exactly the same.

This is one of my favorite games of all time.

I don't understand people that say that there are really only 5 types of guns. Even within a class the guns usually feel totally different based on the different attributes of it.

And the classes play the same? I changed my hunter from a sniper build to the bloodwing build and it plays totally different, and that's within the same class...

    Maybe I am easily amused...

Sounds good. Zombie Ned was great but I wish I hadn't wasted my money on Moxxi. It was pretty lazy and not worth £6. A few arenas with the same old enemies, and you can't even level up or get any decent loot.

Does any of this apply to the PC version?

    @notmyname

Given that the ending of DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS actually takes the generic fantasy ending and adds a nasty sting in the tail, asking you to make some really hard choices I'd be understandably upset if someone spoilt any of the choices for me. Same with MASS EFFECT which has an ending which while being generic is told REALLY well.

Then again due to the Planescape Torment reference I'm going to assume you're a PC Gamer, overweight and in your thirties to fifties which means you'll be dead soon. So every tale has a happy ending.
