New 2D Worms game dated for PC
Reloaded will cost 18 quid in August.
Worms will make a glorious 2D return to PC on 26th August with Worms: Reloaded. It's been 10 years since a new 2D game has come out on PC, apparently.
Perhaps that's why Worms: Reloaded will cost £17.99 (£16.19 for the time being on Steam).
Thankfully, Reloaded boasts loads of content. Graphics are HD and Worms has "never looked this good", reckons the press release.
There are 65 single-player missions split into normal and tougher Warzone levels. There's also a Bodycount mode that pits one worm against a never ending spawn of enemies and records success to leaderboards. On top of that are modes Forts, Crate/Shopper, Bazooka and Grenade (BnG), and Rope Racing.
Customisation spans skin, victory gravestones, voices, HUD, title, hats, and you'll be able to buy treats with currency earned for progressing in the single-player game.
There's also multiplayer, of course - either locally or online for four people.
Weapons from Worms' past are all stuffed in the warchest, as well as new additions Super Punk Buster, Poison Strike, Worship, Sentry Gun, Electromagnet and Buffalo of Lies.
Rounding the package off is a landscape editor, which enables maps to be made and shared with friends.

Macksed is right - if the Move could be used to replace the mouse on the Playstation this would be a really good reason to pick it up on PSN. It's not been announced yet, but I think it's safe to say that this new version of Worms will spend the next decade being converted to every single new platform on the planet.

Bodycount sounds like a lot of fun, though.

Though i did prefer the graphics back in the day, when your worm was a mere white smidgen on the screen.

But, be good to get it back on a big screen tho!

Now we're back to being an indie-publisher again, we'd been looking at doing this for a while. Given the legacy of Armageddon and World Party, we new we had to bring a lot of features and content, as well as good support via Steamworks (online, community and all that). So yes, very happy to be calling the shots on what we develop and for what platforms.
We're trying to support a wide range of PC's (from netbooks upwards) so we're confident it'll run on most systems. Looks great in HD though

Edit: It's £5 cheaper from the US Steam store too. Poor show Team17...

Like the idea of a level editor, though 90% of the shared maps will clearly be of the cock and balls variety. Which might actually make for a good game, to be fair.

Oh you shouldn't have a problem running this on just about any PC hardware (hell, a modern scientific calculator would almost do
Watching the trailers brought back fond memories of playing Worms and Scorched Earth in University, I'll be watching my Steam friends, as soon as two of them buy this I'll pick it up (surprised there's no Mac version though, if I was a Steam developer I'd be considering dual platform development especially for "simpler" games like this, mind you maybe they do now Mac support on Steam is fairly recent so this must have been in development since before that was even announced).

To add insult to injury we're being charged nearly 20£ for essentially a DLC. Feels like PC gamers are being robbed to buy a new horse rather than being served.

UK: £16.19 (40% higher)
EU Tier 1: 17,99€ (31% higher)
EU Tier 2: 13,49€ (2% lower)
AU: $17.99 (prices are equal)
I was all set to buy it, but I hate being shafted for the same 1's and 0's ....

I find it's sort of in the same field as bomberman. I wouldn't pay over a tenner for it and I never deviate from the original ruleset. Less is more in both price and stuff rammed in.

Hell, I could code an 'HD' version myself from scratch in a couple of weeks. More than a fiver, this is not worth.

1a) Just change the tanks to worms for winnage
2) Team 17 buys the game
2b) And employs the coder too, as I remember
3) Sell to Amiga gamers
3b) Who probably have the tank version already
3c) Who definitely have a copy of tank version if they had the relevant coverdisk from Amiga Power
4) Then sell this game in perpetuity because it has worms with silly voices in
Well done, gamers, you really are the canny consumers you claim yourselves to be.

Also since when do gamers claim they're canny consumers?
