MS outlines XBL Thanksgiving deals News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

20 November, 2009

On the fourth Thursday of every November, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving by feasting and frolicking. That time is upon us again, and so Microsoft has put some seasonal Xbox Live deals together for all regions to benefit from.

This weekend (starting today and ending Monday) the new social features - Last.fm, Facebook, Twitter and Zune HD - will be usable by Silver Xbox Live members.

Next week Microsoft is going to snip the price of Fable II DLC See the Future from 560 MSP to 400 MSP (£3.40/€4.80), and the Death Tank cost from 1200 MSP to 800 MSP (£6.80/€9.60). The following week, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be available for just 240 MSP (£2/€2.80)!

Games on Demand will also grow, welcoming excellent trio Battlefield: Bad Company, Saints Row 2 and LEGO Indiana Jones on 24th November.

It's hardly Christmas.

And I still won't pay £20 for a game I can't sell on, which I can buy at retail for £15 and sell for £10 when done.

This isn't rocket science surely ms can see this.

Then again apple did ok with the iTunes thing.

I bought all Wallace & Gromit's episodes, though, I have to say Sam & Max is a much better game. If you dig point'n'click do get Sam & Max, it's awesome, surrealisticly awesome. It's like South Park with a brain.

Might get Sonic 2, actually. Been holding onto some points for PD but could "afford" to spend 240...

They really should price match games on demand. GRAW for 19.99 you can get GRAW2 cheaper than that. And it's a real shame because I would be more likely to buy games I wouldn't normally pick up at the shops or rebuy games I've swapped in. They should do sales every week like steam. But it'll never happen, which I'm kind of glad because I'd rather have hard copy of games.

Why didn't EG ever do a Death Tank review? They had an interview with the guy and everything.

Even though I rather liked Fable II, 400 points still sounds like an awful lot for See the Future.

Battlefield Bad Company's been on it for ages, might be Modern Combat instead? Can't imagine there's many still playing that online though.

Offers are pretty pish, was hoping they might drop the prices on some of the GOD games to something resembling value for money.

I'd be interested to see the numbers for GOD sales. I can't imagine they would be impressive.

It's a real shame because a small decrease in price, say £5 would make a huge difference.

Shame they're offering Sonic 2, not 3 or S+Knuckles.

Pass, on account of already owning Sonic 2.

Death Tank has also had a fairly recent update with a pile of awesome new weapons, which I haven't seen announced anywhere.

Badly researched article with a number of errors.

According to Major Nelson:

For all Xbox LIVE regions except those in Europe, Xbox LIVE Silver members will have free access from November 20th from 12n ET /9a PT /17:00 GMT until November 23rd from 12n ET /9a PT /17:00 GMT

For All European Xbox LIVE regions, Xbox LIVE Silver member will have free access from November 25th from 17:00 GMT until November 30th at 17:00 GMT

So Silver members in Europe will get free access next weekend, not this weekend.

@dangerpuss - ever occur to you we don't even do Thanksgiving? This is probably just a retype of the info they were sent, which of course will be for the US. EU details probably weren't available when this was put up.

The details for Europe were over at Major Nelson's blog on Nov 17.

http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/11/1...

Also the UK version of Xbox.com has all the details relating to Xtival (the free weekend) with a large add on the front page.
